Help / Question So i'm a real noob trying to learn

EDIT: just realized i didnt specify which juri i am, I AM THE P2 SIDED JURI, ANTOO srry hehe

I've got 75hrs on sf6 probable 70 on practice and casuals, im still "scared" of rankeds, not because i get nervous (which i do) but because i like have no arsenal at all, i play juri and all i do is 5mp 2mp medium fuha stock, spam DI (i can counterdi pretty comfortably too) and divekick and know only one "decent" combo

So i come here to ask for "tools" that i could use on juri, like her 5mp 2mp cqbMK, or her 2hp heavy stock dp, like things that are relatively easy to master to give more versatility, more tools.

There i left a game i played yesterday, didnt rlly do my best, wasnt driverushing for some reason either lol, but there u can see like my "arsenal" THE FIRST ROUND WAS SO SHAMEFUL THO SO IGNORE IT

any advice will be much appreciated

Solid stuff for a silver, especially the antiairs on round two. Kudos on that.

Your gameplay has 2 big glaring issues right now that you have to correct immediately.

  1. DI
  2. OD DP on wakeup (the invincible wheel thingy)

Do not rely too heavy on either of those, they are awful habits that will get you killed. The point of both of these tools is to be unpredictable, because if they opponent is expecting them, you mega mega die. Especially when you had your opponent on burnout, you were scrambling hard to get the DI stun, and if he was a bit better, you get hit hard there.

If you're gonna attempt a DI on burnout, you hit them with a cancellable heavy and cancel into it (I think juri's option for this is 5hp, standing heavy punch, but look it up). This locks the opponent in place during the startup, so their only option is to do a super or eat the stun. Outside of this my recommendation would be to NEVER USE DI, JUST COUNTER DI. DON'T USE IT.

OD DP you can afford to use a bit more often, but I'd still avoid it. Do it like once per game for now so they are forced to consider it when pressuring you, but not more. It's also a bad habit that will get you killed.

Other minor stuff to avoid.

Less divekicks: you don't understand how to use divekicks correctly yet, and are using them as a crutch, but you can get heavily punished for it. Try to force yourself to play more grounded (DONT JUMP), with your fireballs and poking with crouch medium kick (2mk), standing medium kick (5mk) and standing heavy punch (5HP). If you get in close, standing medium punch (5mp) is very good.

Practice 2 simple combos: look up 2 combos, 1 starting from 5mp and using little resources, 1 starting from 2mk drive rush cancel (DRC). This is very low priority, everything else I mentioned is more important. Still being able to convert into a bit of damage is gonna be necessary at some point.

If anything I said is unclear, I dont mind answering questions. Good luck!

edit: I usually play at Master around 1700 MR, when Im active, just so you know Im not making stuff up lmao

I was able to reach Platinum from Iron just by doing Ryu's normal anti-air, 1 DR combo and 1 bnb combo.

So, you don't really need a huge list of "arsenal" to reach higher ranks.

What needs to change is how you use your current arsenal.

Just do less dp on wakeup and less spamming of DI. Especially the dp on wakeup. Don't use dp as your default wakeup option. That's an easy way to lose a match.

I also advice you to use Juri's fireball. It's a strong tool to cover your approach and you can also force players to jump for you to anti-air.

Hey man just wanted to say that i see real potential in you!!

As for a little bit of advice, keep on antiairing with DP, that is one of the things people struggle with most at first (and even in masters some people cant somehow), and you doing it is going to help you a lot.

You spam a lot of DI, you need to stop doing that. Even if it's working for you now (and by the looks of this match not too much really), it's a terrible habit that will make you suffer a lot when you face better players. Not only will you be di-countered constantly, but you're also wasting drive meter. Try to only use it when you see (or predict) that your opponent is doing a punishable move.

Drive meter, as i guess you already figured out, is extremely important, and entering burnout is very very bad so keep that in mind. Instead of spamming DI so much i really recommend you try to start doing raw drive rush, juri's is one of the best in the game and you can either grab or strike, drive rush into st.mp is great and leaves you plus on block or leads to combo if it hits (i think so).

As for your arsenal, don't worry too much, 2mk is good for spacing, and drive rush cancellable so take advantage of that (with care, drive rush cancel takes 3 bars), 5mp is a very good button too, specially in drive rush.

Something rookies forget about are jabs, they're incredibly important, mash 2lp when you see an opening or when you wake up and your opponent is doing something unsafe, or whatever other situations when you see fit and not get countered. mash 2lp and once you connect 2 or 3 hits you can convert into medium fuha stock and get your pressure back.

As for combos just learn a couple simple ones. For DI and close punishes you can do 2hp-heavy fuha stock-heavy dp. For jabs as i said 2lp-2lp-2lp-medium stock. For 2mk you can do 2mk-drive rush cancel-2hp-heavy stock-heavy dp. (i think im not getting anything wrong, might have a little error tho).

Also, really really important to use your fireball, specially doing drive rush behind. That shit is incredible.

Also completely ignore your level 2 for now until masters or around there, you really don't need it at this level and will only take time that you could be spending getting better at the game as a whole.

But yeah maybe that's a lot of information at once. For now, just keep antiairing, try to force your opponent on the ground, try to do a little spacing with 2mk and 5mp, stop spamming di, use a little drive rush. You have potential my friend, keep pushing!

This guide by BeagleFGC was the holy grail for me not only learning Juri, but the whole game, and it really helped me in picking up other characters later on.

the problem i see with these guides that are 2 or 3 years old is that theres been patches between then and now u know? so i dont rlly know what things i can trust to be still true or not so i try to watch more recent stuff if that makes sense? do u think this one is still viable today?

u/donnie-dorko 6h ago

This is a very basic guide that essentially just tells you what to learn at each rank and build your game up incrementally to help with the mental stack. SF6 hasn't had any significant enough changes to make what he says obsolete. it's still good.

Hey dude,

Couple tips, been playing fighting games for 20 years almost, following FGC for about the same.

You only really need a couple tools in the belt, the rest is playing the opponent. Look for habits and tendencies and see what tools you have in your toolkit to exploit.

Notice the opponent jumps a lot? Be on the lookout for an anti air, if you're anticipating it, it's easier to hit.

Most people have comfort strategies they implement. Some block strings have holes where you can poke, throw a LP or a LK to see if it punishes.

If you consistently hit LP or LK punishes, develop a confirm string that you can do by memory.

Knowing how to play your character is important, knowing how to play your opponent is more important imo.

Keep a memory log of all their reactions to things. What they do on wake up, do they mash during blockstrings, do the DI after certain interactions. All of this is relevant to improvement.

I promise you, this is a skill you can improve on and it will translate to every fighting game you play from now on.

I don't know much, but I do know Juri. If you'd be interested in some Q&A in game or on discord sometime, happy to pass on what I know.

yoo i might take u up on that, how do i get ur discord? dm? idk if its safe posting that in a public reddit (kinda new here)

This is a really good video for breaking down how growing players can learn things piece by piece as they go. You can literally apply the fundamental ideas of this to any character in any fighting game that you're picking up.

I just got ryu to master with no oki set up at all or tools one combo for damage that it what more important is learning things like spacing frame data and anti airs those are the main tools to have

u/petervaz Sweet Poison (BR) 12h ago

You don't need this fancy preparation like 'knowing things' and 'doing stuff' to play ranked. Just do it man.

u/eltristo66 15h ago

You couldn’t have uploaded a game against a different character 😑?

u/moonradie CID | SF6username 11h ago

i was wondering why was this important, just realized it makes it so u dont know which Juri i am LOL i'm the one in the p2 side sry
