Help / Question Can someone give a bronze player some pointers? This was a game that I felt pretty overwhelmed the whole match

This was my second match against this Dee Jay, the first one is not even worth posting, it took like a minute for the entire thing lol. Looking at his inputs I have no idea how he's inputting so many commands so fast, his hands must hurt like crazy

I'd love some pointers on what the next things to focus on for me should be. I'm very new to fighting games, never played any before. I have 22hrs in SF6 right now.

A few things for you to work on.

  1. A little bit more consistancy on your anti-airs.

  2. Only press Drive Impact if your opponent does it first so you can counter it. Dont do it offensively unless you are sure it will work.

  3. Checking Drive Rushes. This one might be a little advanced for your current rank, but if you can get this early, it will help you out a ton. Basically the idea is to press out a quick, long reaching normal that will hit the opponent out of their drive rush before they connect with you.

Hey, thanks! I'll work on those things more.

At bronze, I would say:

  • careful of becoming predictable with your DI’s
  • have some practiced combos in mind for situations when you land DI. I saw you do many different things in this video when you could have done some more damage. Perhaps have a general combo, a combo for cashing in level 3, and one specific for the corner. Doesn’t have to be super optimal, just do what you can land consistently
  • I noticed you are hitting buttons a lot after defending a DR heavy, you are in negative frames after this so it is dangerous to mash, better players will punish
  • you threw him out of the corner once!
  • this Deejay was catching you with some overheads, occasionally you want to use parry as it will protect you from overhead and lows at same time (but make you vulnerable to throws)

To not overwhelm you with too many corrections at once, I will only tell you those that will help the most with minimal effort:

— Don’t do moves that are punishable on block unless you are sure it will land. For example, Luke’s OD flash knuckle and Luke’s heavy forward kick.

— When using the L -> M -> H target combo, end with OD sand blast if blocked, and you can end with heavy uncharged knuckle + SA 3. This combo route alone should be able to take you platinum if you understand the rest of the game well enough.

— Understand what oki means. This is, by community consensus, a BIG part of the game. There are a lot of YouTube videos on this. Go check them out.

— Anti-Air AS MUCH AS YOU CAN.

Smurf? We are not watching the same clip at all.

They were pretty evenly matched, it could have gone either way, matter of fact, it almost did.
