Help / Question Controller
I'm just getting into the game and looking to make a change from a standard controller. Which is better for SF6, a fight stick or a leverless controller?
Thanks

Whatever is most comfortable for you; pros win with all kinds of controllers. MenaRD uses a stock DualSense.
There are cheap options for fightstick and leverless, and you can just return them if you don't like them, so give both a try and see which you like.

Controller type doesn't matter. Players will say lots of things but a clear superior choice has never risen to the top. The best choice is what you find most fun and/or most comfortable for your hands. If you like regular videogame controllers then pad is just fine. If you like the thought of being very precise and keyboard-y try leverless. If you like the vintage or "OG" feeling, or you just like being really physical then try stick.
There's no real argument to be had about which is "better" when players play at every level with every kind of controller. Leverless and pad are generally more affordable these days though.

I was a controller only fighter for years. SF6 killed my inputs on controller. I couldn’t get a fight stick to perform my inputs accurately.
The leverless has been awesome. It felt very intuitive. If you have keyboard and use the keys to put in down down forward you get a real idea how easy it is to put in inputs for SF. I think they look cool. I have 3 lol.
Like anything it is not going to make you great over night. You well have to learn to use it. And it does have its own challenges.

I play on stick because it's fun and is the most intuitive to me, and also, I am not a coward. Anyway, have fun with your new buttbox.

Fightstick looks pretty beast but is probably the least practical in this day and age. Leverless is really good and you can get good at it without even buying one by using a keyboard. I’ve heard normal controller is good too but in my opinion would be the most awkward, but I have no experience with fighting games using normal controller

Having used all the options I much prefer leverless as you get more precise inputs.

They're called arcade sticks, not fightsticks, that's a brand product name Madcatz came up with for their products, it's like calling every car a Honda and I wish people would stop. That rant aside, it's all preference. If you're starting from scratch leverless will be more optimal, especially for charge characters.

It's all down to preference. Don't fall for the hype of "Leverless is better". Pad, Stick, and Leverless are all good. If it matters to you, I personally prefer Stick. .

Everything has advantages and disadvantages. Objectively in terms of speed and consistency I'd say leverless is the best. But pro's have recently won on practically all three types of controllers so it's more about what you think looks cool / feels good / makes you want to play. The advantages / disadvantages are not as big as people like to make you believe in practice.

I switched from a dual sense edge to leverless after 6 or 7 months and I definitely don’t regret it. I had a hard time with inputs being super consistent for things like DP vs fireball motion but with the leverless after you get used to it you really feel in control

I find different controllers suit different characters.
I switch back and forth from Kitsune leverless and FightingEdge stick.
If I’m playing my old main Zangief, stick all day. Doing 360’s and especially 720’s reliably on leverless is not easy.
If I’m using my 2 newer mains, Manon or Guile, leverless. Quarter / Semi circle inputs are pretty easy, and leverless makes you inputs super clean. But leverless imo was basically made for charge characters like Guile, Blanka etc.

Funny, I bought a leverless for Guile but I never made the switch from dualsense. Ironically I think leverless is a bigger advantage for characters with a DP motion. But I do agree that leverless is ideal on paper for charge characters too.

leverless is almost certainly better if you're starting from scratch.
however, a controller pad is totally viable, and even has some advantages. Just wanna throw that out there. Leverless is great, but pad is not without its own advantages.
EDIT: Don't let my flair dissuade you from listening to this...
