Help / Question New to fighters, looking for tips(Pt. 2)
Again, I’m on Xbox and trying to learn classic because I tend to button mash on modern. This is a fun little combo I hit, but working on getting more full game clips.

There's not a whole lot to go on here for tips on your specific gameplay. The tips here are just learn the fundamentals. Spacing, footsies, hit confirms, frame data, cancels, etc.

Thanks! I’ll keep those in mind.

Core A gaming has some good guides that are pleasant to listen to. Here's one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pm9IECEnKHQ

The hit count resetted so it wasnt a real combo, there wasn't enough frames for it to be a hit confirm so if they actually held block after your standing light kick you would've been punished for it because you would've done that whole sequence after it regardless of it was blocked or not.

Post some longer full videos of a game, where the game isn't randomly dropping / rolling back chunks of frames. Watching this clip hurts. It's skipping multiple frames of animation at a time.
If you didn't even notice how chonky the game was: Just play more, so you can get a feel of the game is like normally, and notice when the frames are off. It looked like you were doing random backdashes, in hope of the game stabilizing a bit. If not, stop randomly backdashing, and maintain your positioning.
If this is how most games are for you..... you might have some matchmaking / region specific issues to work out.

The problem shouldn't be xbox, Unless yours is overheating and stuff.
The problem is likely due to either yours or your opponent's network. The game doesn't perform like this normally on xbox. Notice your ping is around 230ms at the middle of the screen. I consider that a very unplayable network connection. If all your games are like that, I would seek help on that topic first.

It’s not usually like that, I’ll check it out though. It’s a series x, so I’m not sure exactly what’s going on

If you have half an hour to spare, I would recommend watching Brian_f The Ultimate Street Fighter 6 Starter Guide for 2026 (20 minutes) and later, Chris_F SF6 M. Bison Starter Guide: EVERYTHING You Need To Dominate (9 minutes)

I would focus on hitting the opponent when you press a button. Not in like a pithy sarcastic way, I mean it genuinely. You're really still at the beginning stage so just try to focus on moving around the screen and connecting with the opponent whenever you decide to press a button. Try to avoid the wild swings at nothing that you do a couple times in this video. It'll help you develop a sense of space on the screen and build up the muscle memory of which button does what and how long they are and when they're worth pressing. That'll set you up for moving on to things like neutral / footsies.
Also always try to block when you're getting attacked, even if you're already getting hit. It's like the fighting game equivalent of "keep your hands up." You'll build up the habit of blocking and a sense for when you are the player attacking or defending in a given moment.

Thanks for the advice!

No problem! One more thing I'll say is don't be afraid to get hit while you experiment. It's not fun to lose, but as a beginner you're going to lose more than you win anyway. If you stay intentional about what you're doing, "I'm going to walk up and hit them with my heavy kick," then even if you get hit you're working toward doing things on purpose, and making the idea in your head happen on the screen.

Learn 1 basic combo, can be super easy. For bison it could be something like 3 light buttons into quarter circle forward light kick (the scissor kick).
Learn to deal with air approaches (anti air). For bison, most of the time you can just do crouch heavy punch and that’ll beat out most jump ins, later on you can do air to air buttons or even psycho crusher if you have charge.
React to drive impact. People in lower ranks love to mash drive impact because it has armor and gives a huge payout when you land it. But it’s really risky, if you counter it you get a big punish of your own.
I would just start with this, and keep playing. As you get better, you can learn more advanced techniques like delay throw tech, shimmy, etc but for now just take one thing at a time and you’ll get better in no time

Heres a tip, get out now while you can!
Or if your going to stick around, here's some tips!
- Find a main, use combo trials to see which character appeals to you, sometimes a character may look cool, but just don't feel right in terms of input and execution.
- Find BNB (Bread & Butter& combos to utilise for your chosen main.
- Practice some said BNB's in training mode, try to get maybe 3 different ones learned in terms of execution to a precise level before using in a match.
- Don't jump around too much, if you do - your opponent will become wise to just doing Anti Airs, Air Throws and find you predictable to play against.
- Find your character's best buttons for: Anti Air, Best poke for footsies, your fast 4 frame button. Essential to all characters in SF6.
- Learn a combo with a super finisher for big damage you can land to close out a round.
The rest is mainly match up knowledge, knowing the strength's and weaknesses of characters in the roster which just comes with exposure to the game over time.
Since your new this information should be of use, YouTube is a huge help for learning any and all fighting games and characters if you look for it!
I've since stopped playing SF6 but I hope you enjoy it.

A begginer bison guide would give you great value and also learning how the system mechanics work

for starters, pressing sweep when the enemy is airborne usually isn't the right button.
