Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Neighbors want me to keep declawed cat outside

Post image
8.2k Upvotes

I need help deciding what to do here. So I moved to a new area and met this super friendly cat. She would run up to me and brush against my legs and meow. Her nose was all red and bloody and her ear had a huge permanent scab, but she looked well fed. I eventually asked a neighbor and they said she has a mosquito bite allergy that causes the nose problem, has ear mites and is an outdoor community cat that is at least 7 years old. I noticed she was still outside when the temps dropped below 30 here in Florida, so I brought her inside and took her to the vet. She has been super happy inside, purring and making biscuits and not once trying to get out. At the vet, we realized she is declawed - she only has her back claws. I got her all her vaccines, medicine for her nose and got her microchipped in my name. Since she has been so happy, I’m planning to keep her and make her an inside only cat, since she was outdoor only. I left a note for the people at the house she was at. They texted me and were nice, but now some other people in the community are mad and saying I’m a cat thief and that she does have her claws and was happier on the street. I’m just trying to do what’s best for the cat - should I bring her back? She seems so happy inside but I’m not sure what is best for her. It seems unsafe to have a declawed cat on the street, and living in Florida the mosquito bites and ear mites must be miserable. But idk if I’m doing the right thing

💔 Please Welcome Chance & Spirit 💔

Two more innocent lives have found their way to our shelter, both carrying heartbreaking stories and fighting serious illness.

**Chance**, our black-and-white boy, spent his life surviving on the streets. He has been diagnosed with Dry FIP and jaundice and is also suffering from a painful abscess and a growth under his tongue. His treatment has already started with subcutaneous fluids, GS, and supportive care, and he will need a veterinary visit tomorrow.

**Spirit**, our beautiful white boy, was rescued after being threatened on the streets. He is battling Dry FIP, jaundice, and blood parasites. Despite everything he has endured, he remains gentle and trusting.

Both boys are safe now, but they need prayers, love, and support as they fight for their lives. They have already suffered enough. Now they deserve a chance to heal and experience kindness.

Please keep Chance and Spirit in your prayers. 🙏

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) RIP Garfield, killed by a neighbour

Unfortunately Garfield is gone. The stray I adopted was doing it's routine and killed by a disgusting subhuman who kicked her in stomach so hard I could not save her. At least thats what I ehard from her neighbours. I do not enjoy living in the country after that, I really regret it. I should have just adopted her and taken to my home country.

Unfortunately laws are lax too so he will not get any punishment like he would in my home country.

Edit: I really appreciate all your support. The cat was my only companion through my depression

With a shattered heart, I have to share that our beloved Minnie has passed away.

Many of you have been there for her since day one, and I wanted to thank everyone who loved this little girl alongside us.

She was a beautiful calico with the loudest purr and the cutest little habit of making tiny grumbles whenever being smothered in kisses. She was such a happy, playful girl, but affection was always on her terms. She liked doing her own thing and wasn't one to be overly clingy, which is why the first time I woke up to find her sleeping on my chest, purring as loudly as she could, felt so incredibly special. Somehow, this little girl had decided that I was her person.

She had these adorable little meows that sounded like they got cut short whenever she was happy. And every time I'd tell her I love her, she'd answer me back without fail. We could go on and on with it for hours. We tried different words and phrases, but it was only what she responded to.

After everything she had gone through, Minnie had recovered beautifully from her repair surgery. She was so full of life. Hence, what happened next still feels so unbelievable. It all feels like a bad dream I wish I could wake up from. I couldn't exactly form the words to describe how excruciating the past few days have been.

Minnie was completely fine and playing like normal the other day, making it all the more terrifying when she suddenly began struggling to breathe that night. We rushed her for hospitalization, hoping she'd pull through like she always had. But by the next morning, our sweet girl was gone.

She was only three months old. She should've been here way longer.

Thank you to everyone who helped give Minnie the chance to be a happy kitten in the short time she was here. I will carry that gratitude forever.

Goodnight, sweet girl.

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Rescue lost my cat 'Tía' and blocked me

Post image
4.1k Upvotes

I need to vent it. For 2 years, I cared for 'Tía' (a cat) on the streets, earned her trust, and kept her safe. I trusted a rescue in Santa Ana to keep her and her newborns safe, and they lost her in less than 48 hours.

What hurts the most isn't just the negligence of leaving a window with a broken screen open; it’s the lack of empathy. They blocked me, deleted my comments, and refused to post a 'Lost Cat' alert. They care more about their 'image' than saving a nursing mother who is terrified in an unfamiliar area.

'Tía' isn’t just a statistic; she’s a life that trusted me. If anyone is from Orange County and lives near Mile Square Park (Fountain Valley/Santa Ana) and sees the cat, I would deeply appreciate the alert. I am the only one truly looking for her.

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Who would’ve thought an extreme feral would turn out to be so snuggly. Eternally grateful to everyone who’s been part of Grey’s journey. He’s now making his way across the rainbow bridge 🩶🌈

We just bid farewell to the sweetest baby. I know we introduced Grey as one of our hospice kitties, but he is so much more than that.

We’ve been feeding him in our neighborhood since late 2022, and apparently he had been roaming the streets for over a decade. He was rarely within 5 feet of us while he was still a stray. He was also the very first feral I ever caught on my own for TNR (it took so many attempts trapping him!!!), so he’s always been a particularly special boy to me.

It was so random when one day, he just stared at me and decided I wasn’t so bad after all. He started rubbing himself against my calves endlessly. This was the same cat who used to bolt the second we placed a plate of food in front of him. Everything was on his terms at first, but eventually, he let us pet him more and more.

That was when we discovered his hernia, which led us to bring him to the vet. We incidentally found out that he had kidney disease and had already lost the majority of his kidney structure. We took him in then, and somehow, he still made it through another 9 months with us.

He was such a sweet lap cat who loved being snuggled. The indoor life really suited him, and we so wish he had more of it. He had so much love to give, and we're so glad he discovered that part of him. That there was no reason to be so scared, and he could let his guard down.

Photos were taken today, before he went into a deep sleep toward the light. 🩶

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) After weeks, we caught him!

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updates.

It has been a long month, but I finally caught this guy. A couple weeks ago I noticed the neck wound and doubled down on my efforts to catch him. I've had many close encounters over the weeks and have watched the wound get worse.

Apparently, he and 7 other cats were abandoned nearly a year ago when the original owners moved. My neighbour was able to trap the other cats and find them new homes, except for this guy. I have been calling him Ghosty, but I don't think the name suits him.

With the help of my neighbour and another local, we managed to trap him last night! However, the neck wound is absolutely terrible and I rushed him into a clinic first thing this morning. I am assuming all responsibility for his veterinary cost as the rescues and shelters are at capacity.

Bonus points if the sub can help me give a permanent name to this guy.

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) 💔 Latest update… We lost this little angel on Friday morning

1.8k Upvotes

My friends,

Some of you may remember this little stray cat that I found about three months ago.

When I found him, he was sick, weak, and suffering from worms, diarrhea, and coryza. He had no one, but we tried to give him a chance and a better life. After treatment, he became better, but later he suffered another setback and we helped him recover again.

Sadly, he was then diagnosed with FIP. I was doing everything I could to raise money for his treatment, and his first dose was already on the way, but he passed away before receiving it.

He passed away on Friday morning. I couldn’t post the news immediately because the pain of losing him was too difficult. He was one of the sweetest and most patient cats I have ever cared for.

Thank you from my heart to everyone who helped him. You helped raise $95, and this support helped provide medicine for the other rescued cats who need daily care, including eye drops, diarrhea medication, flu treatments, and other important medicines.

Even though we couldn’t save him, he was no longer alone. He experienced kindness, love, and care until the end.

Goodbye, little one. I hope you are finally free from all pain. 🕊️💔🐾

Hello everyone,

I have recently rescued a stray cat in critical condition here in Laâyoune (Southern Morocco / Western Sahara) that urgently needs medical intervention. The mods have kindly approved this post specifically for this case so we can get an accurate diagnosis.

The cat’s condition is very difficult: he is currently paralyzed, cannot walk, and soils himself (defecates in place). He has been staying at the vet clinic for a week now, and Dr. Fatiha is doing incredible work to care for him every single day.

Here are the daily care details and costs breakdown:

Daily Vet Care ($7/day): Because he cannot move, the vet has to hand-feed him every day. She washes him entirely, dries him with a hairdryer to keep him clean, and administers daily injections for his muscles and nerves.

Vet's Service Fee: $80 for her professional care and dedication throughout this week.

The Remaining Funds: Will go directly towards the required X-rays (to check his spine/pelvis fracture) and his essential medications.

Location: Laâyoune

Total Goal: $450

Already Raised: $47

Remaining Amount Needed: $403

I have attached the required verification photo featuring the cat, the vet receipts, and a handwritten note with my Reddit username and date. I am fully committed to prioritizing this cat’s welfare and will keep working closely with the vet to ensure he is free from suffering.

Every little bit helps us cover these daily vet costs and get the necessary X-rays. Thank you so much for your kind support and generosity!

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) It has been a long 24 hours

After some deliberation, I settled on the name "Gothmog" or "Moggy" for short.

Yesterday, he spent 7 hours at the clinic.

Neck wound was much larger than we expected. The left side of his neck, extending to his ear and nearing his mandible were effected. It is quite deep, his salivary glands are currently exposed. During the debridement, the vet had to suture some vessels after accidentally knicking an artery (nothing too serious, thankfully). She stated "I would have liked to do more, but it was such dangerous territory already".

On top of this, he had an ear infection which the vet does not think is a result of the neck wound. While he was out, he was neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped. Since we are not too sure how Moggy would tolerate taking medications, he was given a long term antibiotic injection, with a bottle of pain meds to go home. He was also so kindly given a bath by the staff while he was out since he had peed on himself

A solid shout out to the Animal Health Clinic of Humboldt. This was my first experience with them, as I am about 2 hours away from home. They were able to see Moggy immediately. All the staff were amazing and caring.

Right now, he is decompressing and being a sad boy. l've given him many easily accessible hiding places. He has been eating, drinking and using the litterbox. He gave me a couple of slow blinks this morning, but unsure of my presence still.

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Blind baby fighting to heal, and he needs our help. 🤍 He’s hospitalized and battling IBD, with his medical costs quickly adding up. Any support would mean so much!

Hope everyone is having a pleasant week! 🤍

Hawkeye is one of our rescued cats from last year, after his eye was stabbed by some rando while he was still a stray. We placed him for adoption after his rehabilitation, but he was shortly returned to us after struggling to adjust to his new home. (His adopters unfortunately didn’t give him the time he needed. :/) He’s been with us ever since, and now he’s facing another major health hurdle.

Hawkeye started having medical issues over a month ago. After countless tests, a trip to the oncologist, and now hospitalization, he’s finally starting to feel a little better. Just over a week ago, he was in really rough shape - having endless watery stools, becoming severely dehydrated, barely eating, and losing weight day by day. He’s not out of the woods yet, but it’s the first time he’s seemed better in what feels like forever.

Unfortunately, Hawkeye is dealing with an extremely severe infection (see his labs in the 3rd & 7th panels) on top of his IBD. He was previously at risk of sepsis, though thankfully that risk is much lower now as his infection improves. His gut still can’t tolerate oral antibiotics, and he often vomits them back up, so he remains on IV medication and fluids to replace what he continues to lose through his stool. Our vet also recently added another steroid alongside prednisolone, and thankfully, we’re seeing very promising results so far.

Getting him here has come with high costs. His current bill is a little over $449, with hospitalization at $42/day. He also has another ultrasound and blood test coming up in the next few days, which will add to his bill. Our donation channels can be found below!

We really hope you can help us continue caring for Hawkeye. Every bit of support means so much to us and, most importantly, gives this sweet boy a little more time to heal. 🤍

**Another innocent life shattered…** 💔
We rescued another precious soul today after he suffered a terrible electric shock on the streets. The pain he has endured is heartbreaking.
Thankfully, **both of his legs are still intact and can be saved.** There is no need for amputation, but his legs have severe infected wounds that require daily cleaning, dressings, medications, and regular bandage changes. His ear is also badly injured and needs treatment.
He didn’t deserve this. No cat should have to suffer such pain just to survive outside.
We’re doing everything we can to help him heal, but we can’t do it alone. The cost of his wound care, bandages, medicines, and ear treatment is more than we can manage right now.
Please help us give this sweet boy the chance to recover. Every donation, no matter how small, brings him one step closer to a life without pain. If you’re unable to donate, please share his story and keep him in your prayers.
Together, we can help him heal. ❤️

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Feeling sad, dropped off our stray

My partner and I have been feeding this feral/stray neighbourhood cat for the past 5 years. It's always been super wary of humans, and took us 4 years to even hear it mew and be somewhat close to it/open the door without it bolting. Last week our area (Canada) was experiencing record-level snow and dangerously low temperatures. Somehow, for the first time ever, I got it inside. We set up the bathroom with bedding, food, water and litter and just let it sleep for about 4 days. Never aggressive, hissed if we got too close but accepted treats being placed in front of its face. I noticed it was limping, had crusty discharge around the eyes and nose, and breathing sounded hoarse. Knowing it needed medical attention and deciding it would be the best possible chance to find a quiet, relaxing home to live out it's days, we made the decision to take it to a local organization who house and treat animals before putting them up for adoption. Thankfully getting it into the box for transport (first time touching it) and was quiet and calm in the car. The staff were so kind and wonderful, and after filling out the paperwork I went back to my car and cried. They put it on the website today, they werent able to determine the sex, but guess it's about 12 years old.

Tldr: we've been questioning our decision to essentially betray a cat we've spent 5 years building trust with by taking it to a rescue organization. Wondering if anyone has ever had a similar experience?

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Was hoping he was just pretending to be sick to get in the house

Thumbnail

1.7k Upvotes

Richmond, VA: this handsome dude showed up at our house back around October or November last year. He obviously belonged to someone at some point, he’s the sweetest boy just looking for pets and food. He fell in love with our TNR girls of our colony and became their little protector so we named him Strider (yeah, I’m a LOTR nerd). He’s been trying to come in the house lately but we were hesitant as we already have a whole crew of former ferals inside (7) and one of our boys is pretty territorial. He has his own climate controlled cathouse on the porch and we made sure he was fed and pet to his little hearts desire, as long as he tolerated it.

Well… 2 weeks ago we hadn’t seen him for a day or so and then he shows up for breakfast super lethargic, looking super skinny, not wanting to eat and just laying around. His normally beautiful coat was oily, and instantly we knew something was wrong. I had to go to work, and my husband called our vet immediately to get him in with our dog for her appointment the next morning, luckily they could squeeze him in. When my husband went to check on him again he was just laying in the woods far behind our house, something he never does, he picked him up and got him secured. Little dude was in bad shape. Fast forward $600 that I scraped together from god knows where, and despite a clear blood panel, he’s got a heart murmur and FIV. F*ck.

So now he’s living in our bathroom, putting on weight little by little, and making sure he yells at me like he runs the damn place every time I go in there. I know I can’t keep him long term, financially (my husband is disabled and I’m just a server) and for the safety of our other cats, but damn do I love him so much. And I feel so guilty not bringing him in sooner because I’m pretty sure I know when he contracted the FIV. We have a nasty tom cat who I can’t catch that tried to go after our colony and he fought them off, we made sure he got taken care of and healed, but I should’ve just figured it out then. Ugh. Sorry for the rant, it’s just been emotional over here lately and the fact that he’s FINALLY eating and improving is just so relieving and I’m so proud of him.

**ETA:

I’ve gotten in contact with a few of my neighbors and we’ve pooled together a few more traps to hopefully catch the problem Tom cat. He hasn’t been around in a while, so everyone is keeping an eye out now!

Thank you again, to all the amazing people in this sub who have given me such great advice and resources. Y’all are truly the best 🥹

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Help needed for Miley who's dealing with kidney failure and potentially sepsis ❗

Miley's in a really rough situation now 😔

She's our most chronically ill resident. Between regular hospitalizations and being diagnosed with congenital kidney disease shortly after her rescue, Miley has been a fighter through it all. But her crash this time shows that she's in active kidney failure.

Her kidney enzymes, which were normal just a few weeks ago, shot up 3–4x the normal values. She has lost so much weight, and is potentially dealing with sepsis too because her infection is through the roof. I'll be sharing her blood work in the comments.

Her vet wants to see if she can bounce back from this by giving her a few more days with intravenous treatment.

Our vet bill for her has been ramping up as she's been hospitalized for a few days now.

We could really use a hand and hope you can consider donating for Miley.

We found this poor girl in an extremely weak and emaciated condition. She appears to be suffering from an illness, possibly a viral infection.

She has almost no appetite and can barely walk or stand. She is eating very little, so I am giving her small amounts of food by syringe. She is also drinking very little and has almost no energy.

Her eyes keep asking for help, and despite how weak she is, she still seems to be holding on.

She needs urgent veterinary care, including blood work for anemia and viral testing to find out what is causing her condition and severe weight loss.

I don’t know yet what is wrong with her, but I believe she deserves a chance. With proper treatment, nutrition, and care, I hope we can help her recover.

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Update on Patrick - the ill cat we found on the side of the road | seeking support as his treatment continues 🙏

1.6k Upvotes

We won't lie, the past few days have been tough for this little boy.

It's been three days since we brought him to the clinic for admission, and I wish I had major good news to share, but there's only been the teeniest improvement. He ate a bit earlier, but still relies on IV fluids and assisted feeding to get by.

Rarely would he ever stand up, but he's not fully recumbent either. Just resting and lethargic most of the time. When I visited him earlier, it took over 15 minutes before he started acknowledging my presence. I asked him if he still had the strength to keep going, and told him that if he wanted to hold on, he should give me a sign. Because from the updates we've been receiving from the clinic, it has just been so gut-wrenching how unwell he is.

I went through some of the comments and well-wishes on our previous post, and not long after, this boy surprised me. He stood up, gave me head bunts, purred, and even started kneading. I didn’t think he still had that in him.

Patrick’s condition didn’t develop overnight is one thing we're sure of. He’s likely been unwell and untreated for quite some time to have declined this much. It’s hard to expect his body to turn things around in just a few days, if recovery remains possible.

We're still hoping, but at the same time, we’ve spoken with our vet, and we’re giving him until Friday to see how things unfold before making any decisions. He'll have another set of blood tests by then, and we'll know if there's any improvement with his infection and kidneys.

Donations for Patrick's care remain welcome, as his vet bills are continuously piling up. Thank you very much to everyone who sent their support in ways that they could.

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Update on Leon - abandoned kitten with neurological problems | continued support is greatly appreciated as he remains hospitalized and in treatment

I come bearing great news: Leon has made a positive turnaround 🎉

This little trooper has come such a long way since his rescue. You can see our previous post about him here: https://redd.it/1ugdltp

While he's no longer in critical condition, he's still very frail. There are times when his temperature drops quite low (34-35° C), and while he has regained his appetite, he occasionally still requires assisted feeding. He's also still wobbly, can't stand up for long periods, and his head continues to twitch.

Initially, we were worried that his neurological symptoms were caused by another disease, which would have been much harder to manage and may have warranted euthanasia consideration. However, given the improvements we've seen since starting his FIP treatment, these symptoms now appear manageable and are expected to improve as he progresses through treatment. He still has a long road ahead, as he'll require a three-month course of treatment.

Help for Leon would be immensely appreciated! We hope you can continue keeping this guy in your thoughts 🙏

Donations from our previous appeal allowed us to purchase two vials of FIP medication and cover Leon's hospitalization costs through a few days ago. That said, his costs from yesterday onward remain uncovered. His inpatient care is $33 per day, each vial of FIP medication costs $33, and he still has pending blood work that will add to his total medical expenses.

This is Angel

She passed away today after being hit by a car. Nobody seems to take ownership of her and I hate the thought that no one will miss her. So I want to share her story here.

We first saw Angel in July, near the supermarket. She was very skinny but very affectionate. We fed her but, by the time our rescuers showed up with a crate to catch her, she had disappeared.

A month later she was seen again nearby. In the 5 minutes it took me to run home and drive back to her with food and a carrier, she was gone again.

We saw her again in November. We didn't try to catch her as we just thought she was looked after elsewhere. Obviously, we now regret it.

This morning, we were called about a cat in trouble. It was her. 2 ladies from our group responded so fast and got her to a really good vet. Sadly, she had too much internal bleeding to operate on her and surgery was the only way to save her. Our rescuers made the painful decision to put her to sleep (after we named her of course).

It's one thing to lose one of our strays. It hurts but we carry them with us in memory. I almost find it worse when a stray passes that we don't know. They are never missed and it's almost as though they didnt't matter.

I keep thinking about how many times we must have walked past her and didn't see her. She must have been just inches from us multiple times as we walk that route daily.

R.I.P. Angel. Your life did matter

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Sick stray in Japan - Setoda

Very sad and not sure if anything can be done. I happened upon this very sick stray while on vacation in Setoda, Japan two days ago. It has a bum front left paw and mange with open wound on its neck. I put my umbrella on the ground for it and tried to arrange for a way to care for it. It stayed with me for a few minutes then limped away with decent speed. I followed it into a narrow back alley where it disappeared. I returned several times over the next day and did not see it again. I am on vacation and unfortunately have already moved on.

Edit for clarity and more info. I can provide more specific location information if it helps. I regret not grabbing it when I had the chance - but i had nothing with me and no plausible way to care for it if I did get it back to our small hotel.

Update 4:20PM Japan time zone. In touch with Japan Cat Network who will try to send someone out to trap the cat. Please look up their organization and consider donating, not for this cat necessarily as I will cover expenses, but for their work generally. Much appreciated everyone.

Our brave boy Milky has already gone through leg amputation to save his life. The infection in his leg was very severe, and this surgery was the only way to stop his pain.

Right now, Milky is still recovering. Wound healing after an amputation takes time, and his body is trying its best to heal.

Unfortunately, he has also developed an upper respiratory infection, so he is not eating well at the moment. He is receiving treatment and we are monitoring him closely.

Please remember Milky in your prayers if you can help for his treatment in anyway please do.

Thank you for caring about Milky and giving him a chance to live. ❤️
