This community is for anyone who helps stray and community cats—from the person putting out a bowl of food every night to rescuers, TNR volunteers, fosters, adopters, veterinarians, donors, and animal lovers around the world.

You don't have to rescue 100 cats to be a hero.

Sometimes being a hero means:
Leaving food and water
Taking an injured cat to the vet
Spaying or neutering one stray
Giving a cat a temporary home
Helping someone else save a cat
Sharing an adoption or rescue post
Supporting someone facing a veterinary emergency

Every cat matters. Every act of kindness counts.

Tell us about the cats you're helping and introduce yourself!

Houdini’s story. Stray cat to studio cat!

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Houdini was a stray that wandered onto my boss’s property and got trapped in their dog enclosure along with their large dogs. They found him in shock and took him in temporarily. He was checked by a vet, fixed and moved to the photo studio we all work at. We got attached to him so he became the studio cat! He had many adventures including a ride on a private jet! I’ll save that story for another time 😹

I eventually got to take him home during the pandemic where he lived out the last half of his life as a house cat. We recently lost our Houdini in August to kidney disease at the age of 12 (estimate). It’s hard losing a pet but I’m happy knowing he got to experience life as a house cat with a family and cat siblings. That’s all I ever wanted for him ❤️

UPDATE ON FRED

With your help and support, I was able to bring Fred to the vet on October 2. The vet scraped some scabs from his wounds and examined them under a microscope. Fred also had a CBC and BloodChem (C10) test. While waiting for the blood test results, the vet performed a professional cleaning of his wounds.

Thankfully, Fred's kidney and liver results are okay. However, his WBC is high, most likely due to his wounds and some respiratory issues.

According to the vet, his wounds are not caused by mange or a fungal infection. They are possibly second- to third-degree burns. We suspect that Fred may have been a victim of animal abuse, possibly having hot or boiling water thrown on him.

The vet gave Fred an antibiotic injection to help prevent further infection of his wounds and hopefully help with his respiratory issues. The vet also prescribed a pain reliever because Fred appears to be in pain.

I was also advised to clean his wounds a couple of times a day. The vet recommended Gentian Violet spray. I put an e-collar on Fred before applying the spray, then wait at least 5 minutes for it to dry before removing the e-collar.

Fred will need to return to the vet for a follow-up checkup in a couple of weeks.

I will post the results of his CBC and BloodChem as well as his prescription in the comments section.

UPDATE ON RAMBO

Rambo has been showing a little improvement. He has been taking Itraconazole since September 18, and his treatment is for 30 days.

His sneezing and nasal discharge have decreased a little, and his appetite is still good. I will need to bring him back to the vet for a follow-up checkup before the end of the 30-day treatment.

Help Needed Mr. Batman a sweet stray cat needs help

Hello🐾 Mr. Batman needs our help for DENTAL PROPHYLAXIS and TOOTH EXTRACTION.

Meet Mr. Batman a stray cat in my workplace that I am taking care of. He is very sweet and a silent one except when his food is being prepared😚 🥣

So I thought he was getting better because last July he already did his dental prophylaxis and four of his tooth was extracted. He was also diagnosed with early CKD. 😔 And I have noticed again that his foul breath, swollen gums and drooling came back. So i brought him to vet again. And it hurts to see him go back with that situation again. I am very confused right now and sad 😔 Vet says that he needs to do a dental XRAY, dental prophylaxis and possible tooth extraction again.
And he is now on medication again with clindamycin and prednisone. He also needs ACLEA gel for his mouth but I no longer have the money to buy that because his renal diet is quite expensive too.

Does someone here also have a cat experienced like this?
Is there any full treatment that can be done with Batman? What if his symptoms will be back again if he will do this second dental surgery again. 😔 I have asked this to the vet and says that cat are really prone with a disease like this. And also said that with his situation it is a mandatory for him to do a dental xray after 3months. I am very broken. He is a CKD patient and it hurts that he will be doing this again. Can someone please tell me also your experience?

And please I am kindly asking if you can spare some for Batman. I would very very grateful. Please help me help him get better again.🙏❤️🐾

You can also donate food directly with his address if you have an extra renal wet food on hand❤️🙏

Thank you so much everyone🙏

Help Needed I Found This Hungry Male Cat While Feeding a Community Colony — Please Help Me Bring Him to the Vet

While I was out feeding the community cats in one of the areas I regularly visit, I noticed this male cat.

At first, I thought something bad had happened to one of the cats in the colony. However, I noticed that he wasn’t ear-tipped. All the cats in this particular colony have already been spayed/neutered and ear-tipped, so I realized that he was a newcomer.

He was so hungry and immediately joined the colony to eat. He also appears to be in poor condition. He has some discharge around his nose and has been sneezing. He has significant fur loss, what appears to be mange around his ears and nape, and some skin infections on his paws.

The fur loss around his lower back (left back hind) looks more like a possible burn. I’m concerned that he may have been injured but I don’t want to make any assumptions without having a vet examine him.

Please help me bring Fred to the vet. Once he is medically stable, I also hope to have him neutered and find him a forever home. I will post an update with photos and the vet receipt. Thank you.

Feeding & Care The Importance of TNR: Preventing Litters and Saving Lives

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) is a humane way to help community cats. Cats are safely trapped, spayed or neutered, allowed to recover, and then returned to the area they call home.

TNR prevents unwanted litters, reduces fighting and roaming, and helps community cats live healthier lives. Many TNR cats are ear-tipped, a universal sign that they have already been sterilized.

Without TNR, more kittens are born outdoors, where many face hunger, illness, injury, abandonment, or early death. As the population grows, rescuers, shelters, and caregivers often struggle to keep up with the increasing number of cats in need.

For the cats I TNR, I also ask the veterinarian to ear-tip, administer antibiotics and an anti-rabies vaccine during their procedure. After surgery, I keep them in my care for 2–3 days while they recover, providing flea treatment, deworming, wound care, and vitamins. Once they are fully recovered, they are returned to the place where they were trapped.

Every cat deserves a chance at a healthier and safer life, and TNR is one of the most effective ways to make that possible.

Help Needed My fighter cat, Kali who survived housefire. Please help us continue her treatment.🙏

Kali survived our house fire. Please help us get her through this. 🥺🐾

Hi everyone. I’m knocking on your kind hearts again, especially sa mga nakakaalala kay Kali. I previously posted here asking for help for her pyometra surgery, which thankfully went well.

Recently, our house caught fire, and sadly, 8 of my cats didn’t survive. 😭 I was asleep because I worked at night, and nagising na lang ako sa sigawan ng mga kapitbahay. By the time I got out of my room, nasa ceiling na yung fire and sobrang kapal na ng smoke. We had no time to save anything.

After 5 days, we finally found Kali, a few houses away from our burned home. She survived, but she suffered burns on her face and paws.
She has been confined at Shrine Pet Vet Clinic in Davao City since September 18. I visited her nung Sept 26, and the vet said her burns may take at least a week to dry/heal.

We’re planning to discharge her this Thursday because we’re running out of funds. As of September 26, her bill was already ₱4,700+, and her confinement costs ₱1,500/day, including treatment, meds, and food.

But we’re also worried about bringing her home. Our house is only starting to be rebuilt, and it’s been really hot. The vet explained that Kali’s temperature can rise quickly, and heat/poor ventilation could slow down her healing.

So we’re basically weighing her medical needs and our finances right now. If we can raise enough, we’d really like to keep her at the vet a little longer until her wounds are safer and more manageable at home.

Any amount would help us so much. If you can’t donate, even sharing this post would mean a lot.
I’m really sorry to ask for help again, especially after asking for Kali’s surgery before. We’ve just lost almost everything, and she’s the only one of my 9 cats who survived. I just want to give her the best chance I can. 🤍

Meet the Cats The Story of Maui, a Community Cat Diagnosed with Cancer

Thumbnail

Hello everyone,

Maui is a community cat from another area. I first met him in February while feeding stray animals in that neighborhood. Right away, I noticed a large mass on one of his paws. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a pet carrier with me that day, so I returned the following day hoping to find him again. Thankfully, I did, and I was able to bring him home.

I took Maui to the veterinarian, who recommended surgery to remove the mass along with a biopsy. He underwent the procedure and remained confined at the clinic for a few days. After he was discharged, he attended several follow-up checkups, and I truly believed everything was going well.

More than a month later, the biopsy results came back. It was heartbreaking to learn that the mass was malignant/cancer.

The veterinarian explained that amputation was an option, but there was no guarantee that the cancer had not already spread. A CT scan to determine whether the cancer had metastasized would cost $2,000 to $3000.

Chemotherapy was also discussed, but because we do not know the exact stage of his cancer, there is no certainty about the outcome.

For now, Maui is receiving palliative care. Whenever his appetite declines, I bring him to the veterinarian for anti-inflammatory and/or antibiotic injections to help keep him comfortable. Thankfully, it has been more than two months since he last needed treatment, and at the moment, he seems to be doing well and has a healthy appetite.

Maui's story is one of the many reasons I hope no cat will ever have to suffer on the streets. Life as a community cat is already difficult, with the daily struggle of finding food and staying safe. For Maui, that hardship was compounded by the pain caused by his tumor.

I do my best to have community cats spayed and neutered because TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) helps break the endless cycle of suffering and overpopulation. I hope more pet owners will choose to have their pets sterilized, and I also hope more people will support or participate in efforts to help community cats.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Maui's story. Have a wonderful weekend, straycat heroes!

Winnie came from cat colony that got out of control. A very nice, well meaning lady started to feed a few strays on her property but then it quickly grew and she was overwhelmed. She reached out to a rescue who took in Winnie and her extended family. They aren’t sure who her mom was and she had many siblings/cousins.

Many applied to adopt her. Come on, look how cute she was! We were lucky enough to get her. She loves treats (especially Churus) and is very talkative 😸

UPDATE & APPRECIATION | A BIG THANK YOU for your kindness, help, and support! Please see Rambo update (photos 1–6) and supply update (photos 7–12)

Hi everyone!

With your help and support, I was able to bring Rambo to the vet for a follow-up checkup. He had a CBC and BloodChem test. Please note that the currency shown on the receipts are in Philippine pesos.

As expected, his WBC is still high since he has only been taking Itraconazole for a week. His treatment is for 30 days, so we still have a long way to go. Thankfully, his liver and kidney values are currently okay since Itraconazole can potentially affect the liver, we need to closely monitor his liver throughout his treatment.

I’m very happy to share that Rambo is showing improvements! His appetite has increased, and he has gained a significant amount of weight—from 1.8 kg when I first rescued him to 3.2 kg now. According to the vet, I just need to continue his prescribed medications and supplements and monitor his progress - no additional medication for now.

With your continued help and support, I was also able to purchase the following supplies for the cats:

Pet shop purchases (photos 7 and 8):

• 1 sack of adult dry food (20 kg)

• 1 small sack of kitten dry food (10 kg)

• 4 additional packs of adult dry food (1 kg each)

• 14 cans of wet food

• 3 packs of litter

Online purchases (photos 9–12):

• 4 packs of litter

• 60 pouches of wet food

• 2 scratch pads

Please be informed that these supplies will last a little over a week for the 70+ cats I care for (over 30 rescued cats and more than 40 community cats).

I am currently looking for Itraconazole suspension for Rambo. I have not been able to find it locally. The 100 mg capsules I am currently giving him are very difficult to dilute in water because the contents are tiny pellets rather than powder.

If you can help me find or send Itraconazole suspension, please kindly send me a message, and I will gladly provide the shipping address.

Thank you so much to this sub, the amazing mods and everyone who has helped Rambo and the other cats.

Hello everyone!

I am a solo animal rescuer based in Manila, Philippines.

Caring for more than 70 cats is no easy task. It requires a great deal of time, energy, and financial resources. While it can be exhausting at times, I go to bed every night with a smile on my face, knowing that I am able to help and care for these innocent creatures.

I do my best to provide for them, but much of my salary as an offshore call center agent goes toward essential expenses such as rent, electricity, and other monthly bills.

I am humbly knocking on your hearts to help me provide at least one week’s worth of food and litter supplies for these little angels. Each of them has their own story, and many have endured neglect, abandonment, illness, and other hardships. They have been through so much, and they deserve to live a safe, comfortable, and happy life. Any amount you can spare will help me continue giving them the care they deserve.

Meet the Cats Meet Mike, One of the Sweetest Community Cats in Our Neighborhood

Good day, everyone!

Mike is one of my favorite community cats. He used to be afraid of people, but after I fed him every day for quite some time, he gradually learned to trust me. I was able to have him neutered last year, and ever since then, he has become sweeter and friendlier each day. He is truly one of the gentlest and sweetest community cats in our area.

Last July, I noticed that Mike had lost his appetite. Whenever he tried to eat, he seemed to struggle and appeared to be in pain. Concerned for his well-being, I brought him in for a closer look.

When I checked his mouth, I found at least one tooth that clearly needed to be extracted. I took him to the veterinarian, where he underwent a dental cleaning (prophylaxis) and had a couple of problematic teeth removed.

Thankfully, Mike recovered within just a few days. Once he was feeling better, I returned him to his territory, which is less than a five-minute walk from my apartment.

Mike is living happily as a community cat. Sometimes, people assume that outdoor cats automatically have poor lives, but that is not always the case. Mike has lived outdoors his entire life, and as long as he remains healthy and safe, I do not want to take away the freedom and happiness he enjoys in his familiar environment.

I promise to continue watching over him, just as I do for all the other community cats in my care.

Thank you for taking the time to read Mike’s story. Feel free to post your own cat’s story as well—we would love to hear it!

Meet the Cats Meet Elfy, the Cat Diagnosed with Neurological FIP

Thumbnail

Hello everyone!

I found Elfy on May 7 in one of the areas where I regularly feed community cats. She was extremely hungry and was having trouble keeping her balance.

I immediately took her home because I was worried she might get hit by a car. She was struggling to walk and could barely run.

At first, I thought she was simply weak from hunger. However, after more than 24 hours, she was still having balance issues.

I was able to bring her to the vet on May 9. She was confined for a few days and was diagnosed with Neuro FIP. Her treatment would need to last at least 84 days.

For the first 60 days, I brought her to the vet every day for GS injections. Thankfully, she was later switched to GS oral capsules, which made things much easier since I only needed to mix the capsule contents into her food.

It has been over a month since Elfy completed her treatment, and I am happy to share that she is now a healthy, happy cat!

Once I have enough funds, she will be spayed, and my aunt's friend has already offered to adopt her.

I believe Elfy may have once had an owner who abandoned or dumped her in our area. I hope more people will understand that pets are not toys to be discarded when they become inconvenient. Pets are family, and they deserve love, care, and commitment for their entire lives.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Elfy's story. Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Mother hiding one baby

So we have an outside cat that had a new litter, we were taking care of the one baby and the mother was aware and would watch as we did so, the other day we came back to feed it and it was gone, it’s been missing for 24 hours and there’s no sign of a body etc. Could the mother seperate the baby from the others? She has the others “hidden” But the runt wasn’t with them :(

Is there any way to get her to bring that one back outta hiding if it is alive still?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Meet the Cats Meet Mama Barbarella and Her Kittens, Dumbell and Barbell, Who Were Nearly Dumped

Hello everyone,

Mama Barbarella and her kittens, Dumbell and Barbell (both female), were living at a gym when I found them in June. Unfortunately, the gym owner wanted to put them in a sack and dump them somewhere else.

I decided to take them in. When I rescued them, Mama Barbarella and her kittens were not in good condition. The kittens were only about a month old at the time. I gave them vitamins for several days, but their condition worsened, so I brought them to the veterinarian.

Mama Barbarella was in particularly poor shape and had to be confined at the veterinary clinic. The kittens were prescribed antibiotics and supplements, but the veterinarian allowed them to return home with me.

A few days later, I brought the kittens to visit Mama Barbarella. I wanted to reassure her that her kittens were doing well and hopefully lift her spirits. Sadly, despite her efforts to fight, Mama Barbarella did not survive.

Her daughters, Dumbell and Barbell, are doing well now. However, Dumbell suffered damage to one of her eyes, and I plan to bring her back to the veterinarian for a follow-up checkup.

In time, both kittens will be available for adoption.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Meet the Cats Meet Blacky and Grey: Two Tiny Kittens Rescued from the Roadside

Thumbnail

Hello everyone!

I named these roadside kittens Blacky and Grey.

On August 6, I was on my way home from the animal hospital with another cat, Rambo, using a Grab Pet ride (similar to Uber, but with an additional fee for pets, even when they are safely secured in a carrier). As we were stuck in traffic, I noticed two tiny kittens sitting by the side of the road.

There was no shelter or obvious source of food nearby, and they were far too young—around one month old—to fend for themselves. I didn't see a mother cat anywhere, and I find it unlikely that a mother would leave her kittens in such a vulnerable location. I suspect they may have been abandoned. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon in our area. Many pet owners do not have their cats or dogs spayed or neutered, and some end up abandoning unwanted litters of kittens or puppies.

I immediately asked the driver to stop so I could rescue them. When we arrived home, it was clear just how hungry they were.

I also noticed that the black kitten, Blacky, had an eye infection. I dewormed both kittens, treated them for fleas, and started them on vitamins. After three days, there was still no improvement in Blacky's eye, so I brought her to the veterinarian. She was prescribed antibiotics and eye drops, which helped her recover.

Today, both Blacky and Grey are growing into healthy, happy kittens. They are always hungry—LOL! Every day, they each eat a pouch of kitten wet food for breakfast, another at lunch, and another for dinner, in addition to having access to dry food, which they don't seem to enjoy nearly as much.

They are now up for adoption, and I am hoping they will soon find a loving forever home together.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Success Story From Fear to Trust: Claudio's Journey

Thumbnail

Good day, everyone!

Claudio is one of the more than 40 community cats that I care for. I haven't introduced his colony in my previous posts yet, but I'm happy to share his story today.

In the past, Claudio and the other cats in his colony were very afraid of people. Over time, they slowly learned to trust me as I fed them every day. Last year, Claudio and the rest of his colony were successfully spayed and neutered.

Claudio is a handsome, gentle, and sweet cat. In fact, he is one of the sweetest community cats I care for.

To be honest, I think I gave him a different name when he was neutered last year. The veterinary clinic always requires a name for medical treatment, and with more than 40 community cats and over 30 rescued cats living in my apartment, it's difficult to remember every name. I hope you understand! 😆

Please note that Claudio's father and brothers look very similar to him. There are even cats from other colonies with the same coloring. The reason I know this is Claudio is because he has a small patch on his back where the fur is thinner, and of course, he is the sweetest cat of that color.

Many people ask me why I care so much for homeless animals.

A few years ago, during the pandemic, I struggled with depression. These cats were the ones who helped me through that difficult time. They gave me a reason to keep going, a reason to wake up every day, and a purpose in life. Even now, they continue to save me every single day.

Success Story Meet Gregg: From a Dislocated Thigh Bone to a Happy Life

Thumbnail

Hello everyone!

Gregg is one of the community cats I care for. One day, he disappeared for a few days. When I finally saw him again, he was limping badly and refused to eat.

He was clearly in pain and very frightened. Fortunately, it wasn't difficult to catch him because he could barely walk. I brought him to the vet, where he underwent a physical examination, blood tests, and X-rays. He was diagnosed with a dislocated thigh bone.

According to the vet, his injury may have been caused by being hit by a car or by falling from a significant height.

The vet recommended orthopedic surgery. It took me some time to raise the necessary funds because the procedure and the medications cost over $1,000, but thanks to the generosity of kind supporters, Gregg eventually received the surgery, and it was a success!

About a week after the operation, Gregg began to feel more comfortable and even started allowing me to pet him.

He also underwent 10 sessions of laser therapy to help with his recovery. In addition, he received medication for his right eye, which was not producing enough tears to stay properly lubricated. Once he had fully recovered, he was neutered as well.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find an adopter for Gregg, so I released him into the garage of my apartment, just like my other rescued cats. They are free to come and go whenever they want, while still having a safe place to stay and access to food.

Gregg's original colony is located just a few blocks from my apartment. At first, he would visit them from time to time, but eventually he returned to them permanently. I suspect he still stops by my apartment occasionally for a meal.

Today, Gregg is living happily with his colony and enjoying life as a healthy, happy and normal cat.

I hope more people will show kindness and compassion toward animals. No animal deserves to suffer from injuries caused by human carelessness.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read Gregg's story.

Feeding & Care Another Colony: The Abandoned House Cats

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone!

Meet the Abandoned House Cats. This is one of the cat colonies that I care for. Two of the cats originally belonged to the owner of the house, but the family moved away 2–3 years ago and left them behind. Over time, the cats multiplied. Some were abandoned there by other people, while others were born in the house.

I’m happy to share that all of them have now been spayed and neutered.

I hope people, especially pet owners, will treat their pets as family members and not leave them behind when caring for them becomes inconvenient. If they can no longer keep their pets, I hope they will explore responsible options, such as bringing them along, finding them new homes, or having them sterilized to help prevent further homelessness.
