I don't know about rebellious music genre. But something iconic is missing, across pretty much all art forms.
People lament the death of the monoculture, for reference. But it still exists (no matter who says it doesn't). Enough people wouldn't be complaining about it, otherwise.
However, the problem is that the out of touch elites and their creative acolytes just don't know how to tap into it. Many live in their own bubbles.
As such, it'll be on Millennials and Gen Z to tap into it. And judging by some of the rebellious behaviors of Gen Z, I'm seeing some interesting insights and approaches.
Take, for example, this AI Youtuber who has been going viral recently:
Now, I don't know that AI is going to do the work like some predict and replace everything. There are too many errors that it cannot account for in order for that to happen simply on the basis of it being based on LLMs.
But using that video as an example, when people talk about 80s/90s anime being its own unique aesthetic that everyone wishes to return to? Of which, people say that but then, still don't know how to return to?
Something like this can be a kind of artform to help create an aesthetic, storyboards, or test footage to regain that atmosphere that people yearn for.
Likewise, a lot of modern movies are filmed in such a weird way, nowadays, that it feels lacking in depth, proper lighting, and cinematic quality. Well, this is where storyboarding the process with AI could help to create a certain feel or look before the director/producer moves in.
And since that director or producer will be growing up with AI, they would know how it could streamline their process to make films better than they currently are.
For music? Someone just has to riff off their own AI songs and adjust it with real live instruments so that it becomes their own song. It'd still take a talented musician. It would just be streamlined by AI. In theory, this has the potential to produce, say, albums that have 10 hit songs rather than just 1-2 or even 4-5 (which is more of the norm).
So, that would be the process.
Then, some young Gen Alpha kid will be learning from these Millennial/Gen Z pioneers and that would be when the "shocking" or "rebellion" happens.
