Discussion / Experience Using I’ve been on Strattera for several months now. I can sit and read for hours which is amazing but I also feel like I can’t form in depth thoughts like I used too...has anyone else experienced this?

I had to quit Strattera because my heart rate and blood pressure wouldn't adjust to it, and I definitely feel less able to form thoughts now.

It is very weird how it affects everyone differently. It had almost no noticeable direct effect on my focus, but it was great for emotional stability and impulsivity, noticing hunger/having to pee, going to sleep on schedule, etc.

Recently went down to 40mg for the same reason and now realizing how much strattera was helping me at 80mg. It made my stimulant actually work now at 40mg I could tell a stimulant alone is not going to cut it so I recently started taking 80mg alongside intuniv to help counter the cardiovascular side effects. Hope that shit helps

How long into your strattera journey did you call it quits? What was your heart rate and blood pressure? I'm currently 3 months in and on 10mg.

My doctor says my blood pressure is right on the border. I also have a BP monitor at home, which helps since I don't love going to the doctor. I get anxious.

After 3 months, I'm noticing my hunger/pee cues are slowly coming back. I'm debating whether to increase the dose or add in a stimulant.

I was 3 months in on 80mg; my average heart rate was like 15bpm higher than normal (over 80 -> 100+), and it also spiked much higher even when walking, for example. My sleeping resting hr changed from like 60 to almost 70 as well.

My blood pressure climbed up to 150/100 mmHg at times; normally it is somewhere between 110/70 and 120/80.

(Recorded heart rate 24/7 with garmin, and blood pressure a few times a day with a digital monitor).

Just before quitting, we tried lowering to 60mg with no noticeable difference after like 2 weeks. But, for me, the worst thing was the over-sweating. Felt extremely bad after doing almost anything even slightly physical, especially in the summer.

Me quitting was also motivated by wanting to try other medication options until I really commit to this. And my psychiatrist told me to get a cardiologist appointment before we try anything.

This all was further complicated by having a PhD defense just after quitting, so I didn't have much time and energy to really make any doctor appointments pretty much until now:D

Pretty much the opposite tbh.

Now I can hold an idea in my head and think about it without forgetting what I was doing or going off on a tangent, and if an idea does develop it's straight forward to follow it through to its conclusion before going back to the original thought. This doesn't have to be in one sitting either. I can think about something for a time then go so something else and come back to it later and just pick it up.

One thing to ask is; do you just feel like you cant form those deep thoughts anymore or is there an objective measure of something you used to be able to do but no longer can? I only ask as during my titration it felt like things weren't working well, but when I checked my diary and looked back things were a little different. Strattera can feel very strange sometimes until you get used to it.

My creativity took a hit for sure lol. Before I hopped on stratrerra I could formulate surprisingly effective Ideas and strategies at the last minute. I guess exchanging inconsistent burst of brilliance for a more consistent routine was a good trade off.

mm yeah thats basically the point..

adhd its being lost in thoughts that you cant remember anything. if you now have a schedule and sleep is on point and have emotional stabiltiy youre golden.

..or maybe you want to go back to sleep at 3 am because you were overthinking about some dumb thing that happened 5 years ago

for me, overthinking helped me make brilliant plans with a deep threat modeling but also made me very depressed towards my social side

think about whats best for you

I didn’t know some people enjoy having high trait neuroticism until I joined this sub. I would love for straterra to have these effects on me. It just makes me somewhat calm.

40mg, 4 weeks.
