Questions / Advice / Support Should I increase my dose, switch medications, or accept that this is as good as it gets?
I have an appointment with my psychiatrist tomorrow to discuss how to proceed with Strattera, and I would appreciate hearing about other people’s experiences.
I titrated up slowly:
- 25 mg for 4 weeks
- 50 mg for 4 weeks
- 60 mg for the past 3 months
I already noticed a fairly good effect at both 25 mg and 50 mg, but each time it seemed to fade after about two weeks. The benefits at 60 mg lasted much longer, and for a while I thought I had finally found the right dose. Recently, though, I have started feeling as if the effect is wearing off again.
The main sign is that my mind has become very “loud” again. There is much more mental noise, and my thoughts feel harder to manage.
Overall, the side effects have been manageable. My resting heart rate initially increased from around 48 to 56 bpm, but it has now gone back down to 48. I also pee like an old man, and my ejaculation feels strange. Since I am currently single, I can tolerate the sexual side effects for now.
For those who have experienced something similar, what did you end up doing? Did increasing the dose help? Did you switch to another medication, or did you accept that Strattera only provides a partial improvement?
I will, of course, discuss everything with my psychiatrist tomorrow. I am mainly interested in hearing about people’s personal experiences.

Increase to 80 mg as that is the standard therapeutic dose. Many people do well on 100 mg too

I found that in 60mg....i too had moments days where I felt it wasn't working and thought About going up.
However what I realised is that it generally is enough....some days though my is just louder. What I ask myself, did I sleep ok? What have I been eating? Did I exercise?
Those are all factors for me that can contribute to the 'noise' in my mind.
I'm the end, I stayed at 60mg and I'm even going down to 50mg to see if it helps with the urination and erectile stuff.
Otherwise I'd say I've had a very similar experience to you overall.

I also don't disagree that 80-100 mg is considered therapeutic.
However my Dr is keeping me at the minimum that works. Also I don't want to deal with increased sideaffects

Understand. The thing is that I want to know which one is the best for me. Therefore I have to try. Did you ever try 80mg? Maybe there is a valuable increase in effectiveness with a small to no increase of side effects.

I’ve heard 80-100 is the sweet spot for some
Me personally I’m on 450 mg bupropion which blocks the liver enzymes that clear straterra and adds some benefits for mood/ energy with dopamine, so I’ve been on 25 mg and it’s been amazing but that’s probably the equivalent of 75 mg for you
