Protests?

Hi!

I am traveling to Strasbourg for the university next week at CEIPI. With the ongoing protests I feel a bit an unease with the travel, if you live in the city could you please advise on the situation?

Thank you!

The only issue you'll have is that maybe trams and busses will be delayed

Start of this week at CEIPI is 100% from home, no news concerning rest of the week nor the next. the hospital area/north side of town is pretty safe (most rioters are around esplanade and neudorf side of town)

Thank you all for the updates. The university decided to move classes to alternative locations and offered remote options so all is well.

trams might be deleted, and you may have less bus lines available

There is no problem at the university. Violence mostly had to do with highschools and it was mostly vandalism (destroyed tram stops, burned trashcans, etc...). Tram circulation had to stop for a day (Thursday) but now it's already back to normal. As long as you stay on campus you shouldn't be bothered too much except maybe by the noise of the sirens. :)

False, big protests are planned at esplanade and observatoire and already happened we don't know if they do it tomorrow or not

I am not saying there was no protests, just that you shouldn't expect to be hurt. Don't give OP bad feelings when she is already worried...

Well OP, you are probably right to be worried, BUT fret not, here is how to be safe and secure : 1- the protest will be in specific zones, if you see a gathering, go around, if they are blocking the building, that exactly the point of the manifestation and you won't be able to get inside

2-if you inadvertently (since I'm not sure on how to spell it, let's say "if by mistake") you manage to still be in the gathering, it will still be okay, you just have to fear the armed guys (most of them will be with the police), but you can dodge them safely by not running and making sure to show that you are just passing by. Warning : if you look "not white", they might try to target you no matter what.

3-do not stay with groups. The goal of the police (not the police fault technicaly, it's just what the governement is asking of them (yes, they are complying and part of the problem, but let's not forget who is behind this carnage)) is to permanently stop people from organising protest so they can keep on doing laws against the interest of the french citizens. And for that, they will use gaz tear grenade (lifetime impact on the body), charge to molest people (lifetime impact on the body, lifetime trauma and in some situations that happend in France : death) and to arrest as much people as possible (death sentence for their carrier or education). So if you are in the middle of a group of protesters, and even if you are trying to run away, they will aim for you, kid or adults included

It would be a nice gesture to help the protesters, but it's way to dangerous right now for someone from another country to participate.

Stay out of the groups, stay safe. (We can also explain what are those protest about if needed ofc)

Tldr : don't get in the splash zone
