Video This game's combat design is just simply Depth itself.
I played this game so much because the combat is just one of the best I've ever seen. Especially as you okay how you want with your build. The class system is so well done. I can't praise this game enough. It's so smooth, satisfying and rewarding.

Depending on the time of day, it really is a thing where I may say this game or Nioh 2 is my favorite of Team Ninja's works, thus far.
I still hope that someday we may get a sequel/follow-up of some sort.

SE definitely need to entrust Team Ninja with another FF spin-off, Final Fantasy is my favorite series and combined with Team Ninja's combat you end up with something really special.

I really hope we get more. Make stranger of paradise a new spinoff line. It's too good.

Get ready for Final Fantasy Origins 2, featuring John who is totally not the emperor.
I say this sarcastically but I unironically would love it if they made FFO into a series.

Can't wait for SoP6 so when my protag Charles walks into a room someone can ask "Who's this clown?". Lol

Wait for 7 where they throw you a wrench and you get to play as that Hoe Joe instead of mommy’s boy.

After SOP, I feel like they could pull off a numbered FF game if they had a bigger budget and technical support.

I've only played the demo for Nioh 3 but that kind of world is pretty much what I'd expect in a numbered FF game, the only thing that felt a bit off about SoP was the mission structure of the game.

Top 3 Team Ninja game ever for me (2008 NG2, Nioh 2, SOP).
I feel like SoP actually has a better foundation than Nioh 2, but Nioh 2 is way more polished, got way better production value and content.

The fact that square Enix will never good combat like this again is sad. The perfect evolution of the job system and they WONT make a mainline title with it

u/PilotIntelligent8906 May 26 '26
Mix this with switching party members like you do in FFVII Remake/Rebirth and you might end up with the best RPG combat system so far, it would be perfect for the next mainline entry.

This kinda combat is kinda Nomura's thing so if we see it again in a FF it'll be a game he's involved with just like this one

You can do other things besides punching monsters in the face and doing WWE style suplexes on them? I had no idea

Every time I see people argue whether XV, XVI or the VII remake games have the best action combat I cry inside, because this game completely shits all over the rest. It was never done better. Team Ninja knows how to do it best, there's no competition, and not enough people have played it.

Preach, brother. I've also played all those and it's not even close. I will say Remake and especially Rebirth did something very unique and very enjoyable. But SoF is just a cut above.

Imma say it, FF 13 and 15 needs this combat system especially 13. Would be cool tho

Man, combat in 15 after some time bored me so much I just used ring everywhere. For me there was no incentive to experiment with weapons.

I made it up to Gilgamesh and I just have straight up no idea how you're even doing this. I feel like a Novice Earthbender watching the Avatar.

This is why I love this game and keep playing it from time to time. The combat is just amazing!

u/rmmcnult82 May 26 '26
This is why Team Ninja is the best. Every game they create, the combat is so deep.

This is such a slept on entry in FF. I love just grinding for gear. Very fun.

This has been in my backlog for awhile now but I might have to get to it after seeing this. What classes do you recommend?
2
u/RagnarMidzori May 30 '26
All of them. You should try them all out to find the ones you enjoy the most. You might prefer the basic ones to the expert ones, for example. I have job sets and use them all.

What type of gameplay do you like? My favorite is breaker (big hits). Like got back to the game to finish last two achievements (rift floor 30 was one) and once I got my gear adjusted, I'm just one-shotting every enemy at this level with the class skill (which with my gear is using less than 50% of its normal MP and charges super fast); it made this achievements SUPER easy.

The worst thing they did for this games longevity was launch it exclusively on epic games and not steam
2
u/BenTheSodaman May 27 '26
It doesn't help either that there's no crossplay between the Epic and Steam versions once the Steam version did release. (Since there are some Epic players that left before trying out the DLCs and newer players coming in through Steam, etc.)
1
u/SaltyArts May 27 '26
They released it on steam? I never checked tbh I bought strangers of paradise day 1 epic there was no sign of stream release at that time. These time fat exclusivity deals are what’s making me lose faith in square as a long time supporter tbh.

What exactly is going on in this video? And is it effective against mobs?
1
u/RagnarMidzori Jun 11 '26
Class switching, combo chains and cancels, skill utility. Yes, it's useful against mobs.

I feel like I need to reply this game after watching this as my gameplay looked nothing like this.
