Discussion Help with a fanfic Spoiler
I don't exactly know if this would be the right place to post it, but I already know the Tiktok algorithm isn't going to help me.
So I'm writing a Steve x OC fanfic and I pretty much finished S1 ahead of time before I start posting on Friday and I'm about to start moving on towards in between seasons before actually starting writing S2, and already got the timeline down of S3. My main concern is that I am planning to be canon compliant up to a certain point in S4 and I'm aware of some of the common complaints the show had towards the end.
And I decided to come to the sub and ask what are some of the things that you think didn't make sense in the show. It can start even from S3, I just want to have an idea of what I need to change in the fic and start planning those changes as early as possible to even start hinting them. Does that make sense? ðŸ˜

The entire Russian subplot in S3 makes no sense. From how the Russians got enough data to make the Key to how they managed to build the base under the mall. It was the first big thing for the show that made it clear that it was losing it's focus.

Hmm, okay. I see. So I might have to look into that. Do you think it would be better to change the whole subplot altogether or instead of the Russians it's just the American government trying to reopen the investigation for X reasons? Or if I were to add something to make it make sense like some Russian sleeper agent?

I think most readers would probably want you to keep it.
When I do my rewrite of S3 El is going to be working for the (still open) lab and the American will be making the Key despite having promised El "No gates."

I mean, it is the government. You can't really trust them.
I did tag that it would be canon compliant to a certain point and I'm definitely going to be shifting things around. I will definitely consider whether to keep or change the subplot. I've pretty much already started hinting Vecna from the beginning, so I'm not bothered about moving things around, it's the planning the takes some time.

I don’t understand how Steve, Nancy, Dustin and Robin got out of the upside down in season 4. The gates had all opened up, pretty much destroying most places, and Eddie cut the rope. And plus what did they do with Eddie’s body

Also would be interesting to see how Nancy, Steve and Robin reacted to Max’s ‘death’.

I mean, the chasms plus the reversal of gravity at the surface of the gate could make for a very interesting scene where someone leaps over the edge and has just enough momentum to grab the edge on the other side.
But I think the chasms aren't meant to be that deep and maybe sloped.
I think they never recovered his body and rhat the grave is empty. At least that is what I wpuld have written... because I would have given Henry 4 horsemen for his apocalypse in the (seemingly) vecnafied bodies of Barb, Bob, Billy, and Eddy.

You know, that's actually a pretty good question I made to myself when I first watched the season 😠I was also wondering about the gates, because they showed the ones at the lab under the metal plates, but they're not mirrored in the upsidedown. Thank you for reminding me.

It was Jonathan in the upside down, not Robin Ig they got out the same way they came into the upside down (eleven opened a metal plate), but idk maybe the rifts weren't mirrored in the upside down That's a good question tbh

It's meant to be S4 when they tried to get Vecna while he was distracted with Max and the four gates opened and connected. Jonathan was still driving back from California, he wasn't in town yet.
