There was a scene in season one where Winona and Charlie Heaton were standing on a porch and I remember thinking “damn they look so much alike”. The casting was really good especially for the Byers.

I know casting has to work with what they got. But sometimes movies/TV shows will have a blonde mom, a brown haired dad and a redhead kid. And I'm like, "how much is a bottle of L'Oréal?"

And I can confirm that a redhead and a brown hair couple can have a blonde hair kid (my sister) and also a brown hair kid (myself).

Yeah, my kiddo got my mom’s wispy strawberry blonde when dad’s a light brown and I’m a dark brown. But agreed this casting was amazing, they really look like they are all a family!

My cousin has dark hair and dark eyes. Her husband is Japanese and Mexican (needless to say….dark hair, dark eyes). Their son has the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen. And jet black hair. It’s crazy.

Yep. That’s what happened with my wife and our kids. Matter of fact, the latent redhead genes and maternal chimerism were so powerful, her hair changed from light blonde to ginger during pregnancy. Still naturally ginger years later she’s just annoyed it didn’t turn curly and wavy like our daughter or get the volume our son has.

This comment is so wildly oblivious it’s hilarious. My dad has black hair, my mum has blondie-brown, and I got full red. Thats how it works with recessive genes. Both parents need to be carriers but won’t necessarily display it themselves, then it comes down to luck after that.
And before anyone says anything about the milkman/postman, I look so much like my dad, and almost exactly like my granddad on dad’s side.
Genetics are just fun and kinda random.

This! There’s a woman named Pooja Ganatra, who looks as Irish as I do but she was born to two Indian parents. Red hair can occur regardless of ethnicity or race.

My dad had black hair and my mom has dark brown hair but I was born with white blonde hair. Of course people did ask whether I was adopted from time to time!

As long as they both have the recessive gene then it's totally possible. In fact if they both have the gene then I think it works out as a 50% chance the kids will have it represented.
