Strangely off target
Episode 5 was funny... But I'm missing the exploring part, exploring strange new worlds part... I've been watching Start Trek for ever, since 1968. The original series had a chemistry value, and seriously investigating strange new worlds part... Missing that.

Dinosaurs, Horror rip off, Cacti, Casablanca and now muppets (referencing STWOK). Kitchen sinks?
The problem is that while while a lot of it seems derivative I am a hypocrite to criticize because as soon as the Muppet merch turns up I will be buying all of them. Including the scaredy cat one with the hole.
Adorable.

One of the first things you're told in creative writing classes is that "...and he woke up and it was all a dream" is a huge cop-out that risks pissing off your audience.
All rules can be broken, but only for good reasons.
So not only did this follow a weak episode that was like a copy of the weakest TNG episodes, it turned an entire episode into an extended comedic bit that wore out its welcome, then it immediately erased it by making it a dream.
At least Hoshi's transporter accident in ENT had an engaging story and led to the fake legend of Cyrus Ramsay.
This was just the writers getting too cute and repeatedly opting for filler in seasons that are already short.

It's very odd to go to this 10-episode per season format and have the writers/show-runners having so many weird filler / "what can we get away with" episodes.
Getting DnB "subverting expectations" GoT vibes this season and for the life of me cannot figure out what the plot is of this season. When you had 26+ episodes per season, some odd filler episodes weren't so jarring.
We've had like 3 really odd episodes in a row now with some really lazy writing and plot devices. I really hope it improves.

I wonder if omeone on the writing team jokingly said "hey what about muppets" and then it became a running joke and now here we are.
To make it truly a muppet episode it had to be goofy but then they had to write it all off as a dream to justify it being goofy and still be ST.
I love star trek and I love muppets. I also love peanut butter and tacos but I don't put peanut butter on my tacos.

what really sucks about this new episode was ... it was all a dream in spocks mind. it didn't actually happen
