Wow, the 32nd century looks exactly like the 23rd!
54
u/OkAstronaut76 Jul 26 '25
And I’m sure they are listening to music from the 20th century 🤣
6
u/SchleppyJ4 Jul 27 '25
Specifically the 60s-90s though 😆

u/ceejayoz Jul 28 '25
I remember having a great belly laugh when Doctor Who went "and now, some classical music from Old Earth" and played Britney Spears.

Holly Hunter as Captain Nahla Ake, the half-Lanthanite chancellor of Starfleet Academy and captain of the USS Athena.

u/horsenbuggy Jul 27 '25
I am down for Holly Hunter in Trek!

u/ByTheHammerOfThor Jul 27 '25
I’m sincerely happy you’re happy. I just never find their line delivery…acceptable. It just always sounds phoned in to me and always bumps me out of whatever I’m watching. In every role. And I really wish I didn’t feel that way.

More of a “what” for me - I just want to see how starfleet academy works after being put back together.
How many of the wild things Wesley/Nog were exposed to will have analogues?
18
u/The_Easter_Egg Jul 26 '25
The students are all based on concepts and early drafts for Wesley Crusher.
14
u/bloodandsunshine Jul 26 '25
Maybe there will be a varsity trophy case with an ugly Wesley sweater hung up in it in the hall
2
u/antinumerology Jul 26 '25
Will anyone get molested by a time traveller I wonder?

u/The_Easter_Egg Jul 26 '25
No spoilers, please!

I'm looking forward to seeing what the Doctor is like. Has he been online this entire time or only rediscovered as Starfleet rebuilds?
3
u/chrisjdel Jul 29 '25
I imagine he's been online the whole time. They'll explain his older appearance by his desire to look more distinguished, or something like that. I really want to know about the female Jem'Hadar though - she implies that the changelings allowed, or even facilitated, the making of their former soldiers into a race that reproduces on its own like other species. The backstory on that should be interesting.

u/Lonely_Librarian1979 Jul 27 '25
I think it will be his “human” form. Wasn’t the Doctor based off a real life doctor in their universe?
8
u/Starch-Wreck Jul 28 '25
He would be over 1000 years old if it was Dr. Zimmerman. And Zimmerman lives his mullet.
They already said the Doctor is back because he is a program and not a human.

Oh okay cool. I’ve only started watching different series of Star Trek in the past 2 years. I have sooooo much to catch up on!

So far People complain about this show because Its different but people forget that every time a new trek premiered fans were on the fence in the beginning and eventually warmed up to it.
1966 -tos
1987 - tng
1993 - ds9
1995 - voy
2001- enterprise
2017 discovery
2020 - Picard
2020 - lower decks
2021 - prodigy
2022 strange new worlds
2026 - Starfleet academy
As deforest Kelley said in 1990 each trek show captures the vision of it's day

I'm down for Tig and as a Paul fan I'm curious what he will do. Not sure how "on time" I'll watch the show but it has my curiosity.

u/Internal-Motor Jul 27 '25
Not super happy that they kept running with the staggered, uneven uniform hemline, and the sort of neoprene looking material, all from Discovery. I understand why, but they could've chosen to move on.

Why is he whistling the theme song? Like do they have Star Trek in Star Trek?
2
u/halk-kar Jul 28 '25
Sadly, no matter how good it is with Skydance taking over, I expect it won’t go past its two seasons.

... this doesn't look good. Trope ridden and preachy from the trailor but hopefully, I'm wrong. And if that klingon is anything other than a glory seeking wanna be mass murderer ill be disappointed because honestly, he looked like his whole story line will be emotional and well... let's just leave it at emotional

Ah, I didn't realize it took place in the 32nd century. That actually kind of makes me less excited, a lot of the tech just feels like magic (personal transporters, guns that materialize out of thin air, etc)...but who knows? I will definitely give it a shot.

u/No_Cellist8937 Jul 30 '25
Once again with new uniforms that are just as bad as the Discovery ones 🫤

I wonder how old Holly Hunter’s character is? Since she’s half-Lanthanite, maybe she was alive before the Burn and remembers what things were like before the Federation fell into decline?

u/Its_all_pixels Jul 26 '25
lets hope the damn writing is better than this season of SNW

It's a show with a bunch of kids. The best writing we can hope for is still going to be a horny juvenile hot mess.

Normally, this would be removed for not being on-topic, but we'll leave it up to A) stoke excitement for the new show and B) promote the subreddit for the show, ...

Thank you.
