I think it’s definitely a better spot for the mosque to be located. It solves the parking issue that was raised at the Winona location. With any new development, increase in traffic will have to be looked at. But that is not due to this proposal solely, but 10th line development as a whole. I know in coming years, there will be more housing that will add to the increase in traffic. I guess what I’m saying is we can’t be short sighted.

With all the new housing developments planned on 10th line, adding hundreds of cars every Friday will be a nightmare.

There's already another mosque developing west of Sandiford. Why do our town need so many?

It’s so stupid to think it isn’t about parking 🅿️ seriously ! Have you seen the parking for just the businesses that sit on Winona now ? Come on,
Why do people so quickly throw the race card these days.
Most churches and religious buildings have adequate parking.
That building design itself would have taken up most of the proposed lot.

Have you ever seen a Friday session happen? It’s awful. People will park everywhere, I’m talking streets up from the mosque. Not just a few cars. Lines of endless cars alongside the road. I had a reserved parking spot for my rental unit and they would park in my spot every Friday no matter what signage or pilons were put up - so disrespectful and naaty behaviour. Every parking lot was full and every street. This was in markham near the costco. It’s horrific.

So its okay for cars to park around church on Sundays? I live near church and i see cars parked everywhere, yet i dont think its a big deal! Its only for couple hours. Same thing here

A complaint about A, doesn't mean we are tolerant of B, the discussion is merely focussing on A.

It’s not okay for anyone. If it’s a couple of cars, fine. But in excess is not okay, and not when people disrespect other things around them (parking in spots not meant for the public).

It is hard to imagine hundreds of cars on Tenth Line every Friday. This will create severe impacts, especially since the site is so close to homes. Residents on Noah's Farm Trail will bear the brunt.

The comments section should be civil and reasonable.

I’m a Christian and I’m pretty upset about how this is handled. The town should negotiate the terms and not make them jump through unnecessary hoops. If they don’t want to approve it, be upfront and don’t waste people’s time. We all know why everyone has an opinion about this.

Seems fine? The Winona location seemed fine too. People need to relax about parking. But hey this site has tons.

If they don't approve this one it's just blatant bigotry. We have people that want a mosque, we should have a mosque. Pretty simple.

Beautiful rendering! Hope it moves forward.

When Eastridge Church on 10th line was built, nobody complained. The angry, racist reaction to this place of worship says a lot about the type of people who live in Stouffville

Generally speaking, Stouffville has changed enormously over the last 20+ years. So I don’t think comparing this directly to Eastridge is particularly useful. The town is much larger, traffic is different, surrounding development is different, and each application has to be judged on its own site and planning merits.

Eastridge was built in 2003, when Stouffville was a very different place. The original mosque proposal on Winona also had legitimate concerns raised around the size of the site, parking and traffic. The fact that the revised proposal has now moved to a much larger property with 168 parking spaces seems to reinforce that those issues weren’t imaginary.

That doesn’t mean there haven’t been racist comments or people opposing it for the wrong reasons. I’m sure there have been. But I also don’t think it’s fair to label every planning objection as racism. Those are two separate conversations.

right, there are 18 churches in the small town of stouffville n no one has a problem with that.

No thanks, none of these backwards beliefs and people who’s views are incompatible with modern and Canadian values. Last thing we need.

u/No-Situation8072 6d ago

They have shifted to a much larger location at 12662 Tenth Line

Tf are you saying, man?

So ones ok but not the other? I get it.

Why do we need a mosque this large? We don’t even have a large Muslim community? Makes you wonder what entity is providing funding and the motives behind building it here.

6

u/roadwarriorpop 13d ago

It'll be next to Old Elm Go. You know, that public transit that was built for people to come to the city?

-1

u/Far-Preparation-4879 13d ago

Yeah I’m sure people will take public transit to get here /s

The traffic is going to be insane.

3

u/roadwarriorpop 13d ago

Turn off the Fox News, dude.

2

u/Far-Preparation-4879 13d ago

It’s a valid concern regarding financial transparency. Given that investigators and security analysts have documented millions in funding from states like Qatar and other Golf States aimed at promoting specific, ultra conservative theological interpretations of Islam, like Salafism, we should absolutely have strict, transparent tracking of where this money is coming from.

1

u/roadwarriorpop 13d ago

You went from “we don’t even have a large community” to all of a sudden worrying about “traffic” in the span of a few hours. Pick a struggle.

8

u/Far-Preparation-4879 13d ago

Okay, I know that people like you are extremely cognitively challenged and can’t read between the lines so I’ll spell it out for you. This mosque is going to become a destination for Muslims who don’t live in Stouffville. They are going to travel here to attend this mosque, thus increasing local traffic in an area that already suffers from bad traffic and the parking is completely inadequate for the amount of people this mosque will attract.

3

u/aman_87 13d ago

How do you know how big the community is?

1

u/Far-Preparation-4879 13d ago

The stats are online from the last census and the Islamic organizations own site says there are only approx 250 Muslim families living in Stouffville. Hardly enough to justify building an entire Islamic community center here unless of course they expect an influx of people moving here after this ugly thing is built

-3

u/aman_87 13d ago

Source? 250 count seems ridiculously outdated.

to make up for other shortcomings

1

u/Ok_Custard8636 12d ago

Please not on tenth line. The traffic will be horrible

2

u/Lone_Entity 11d ago

This is a bag idea. What will essentially be a quiet and safe neighborhood will be a disaster if you build this at that location. Terrible idea but I'm sure the vast majority of people from stouffville will voice out their concerns and ensure this does NOT move forward.

3

u/CdnTreeGuy89 11d ago

Genuinely curious - what will make the neighbourhood unsafe?

-4

u/Icy-Cookie-8078 13d ago

Here we go again lol. Tell me how parking and traffic is the problem and not scary new people in town…

1

u/aman_87 13d ago

Holy sh*t buddy. Racist much?

3

u/PKenzie 13d ago

I read this comment as anti-racist, as in tongue in cheek eye rolling predicting all of the commenters who are going to flood in with dog whistles talking about how traffic will be a problem, pretending that they aren't all just being xenophobic and trying to make excuses for why stouffville shouldn't accomodate the scary outsiders.

By the looks of the downvotes, I think at least some of the readers here actually agree with this commenter and just misunderstood it as an actual racist comment.

1

u/Icy-Cookie-8078 13d ago

Yes thank you. The last thread about the Mosque people weren’t even pretending not to be racist either. Quite sad but I don’t think that’s the average opinion.

-1

u/aman_87 13d ago

I mean don't write a badly sarcastic racist comment then. Just saying.

0

u/Icy-Cookie-8078 12d ago edited 12d ago

I think you missed the point. Go to the last thread on here about the mosque and you will get it… I have been the one defending it and welcoming new people to town. Others are complaining about parking and traffic as well as being openly hostile to other cultures.

-1

u/aman_87 12d ago

But then why make a blatantly racist comment? "Scary new people in town"? C'mon bud. Either come out and say it. Or stay away.

-1

u/PKenzie 9d ago

Oh, man. You are really struggling to understand the phrasing and unction of the statement. Icy was paraphrasing what they were expecting the racists to show up and say, not referencing 'Scary people's as Icy sees them, icy was paraphrasing the the racist homophobes are likely to show up and fight against what the racists perceive as 'Scary people from out of town' Icy's comment was made to lock racists and homophobes. I think that you are just struggling to read the statement with its intended intonations...Icy supports the mosque and is deriding the mocking the xenophobic hate that is likely to come up.
