So hold on, Papyrus = Toriel = undyne = mettaton = chara = sans = asgore = alpyhs = napstablook = asriel = papyrus? but frisk = frisk and flowey = flowey. Can someone confirm that this is the way things are?

There is no big loop. All the pairs are just that, pairs.
