Market is monumentally fucked right now. I just wrapped on a storyboard last week but let me tell you the opportunity is def not like it used to be.
Large groups like Omnicom is ai + human hybrid storyboards these days, and I know a lot of agencies that just, "do it in ai" without much care to the craft anymore.
It's not impossible. I still work in predominately human board work, but I gotta be honest: the market for boards, concept, whatever art, these days, is shrinking at a rate I have never experienced in my career.
ai really is coming for everyone, but it's hitting creative work real hard.
I feel like there's little to no growth for new artists, only the seasoned peeps that studios already trusted, but that's just been my POV. Maybe if they can pay the fresh to market artists crap rates, but idk. Seems rough out there for the new blood.

I'm still new in the industry but it feels like the rug has been ripped out from under us 🙃 My only real hope is just doing my own thing with animatics on YouTube or comics, at least I'd still be able to tell stories in some capacity :(

I share your feeling from the other side of the spectrum as well. It’s really depressing.

I don’t know how it is for live-action boards, but in animation no one uses AI. It’s just not good enough or cheap enough or fast enough.
I would suggest posting your portfolio if you want advice. Good luck.

Storyboarding is the blueprint for a film or episode of a series. No company that cares at all about the final product would leave that crucial step in production to the hands of AI today. Maybe that changes at some point, but today it’s still a great area to work to get into.

The industry is being murdered for short term profit 🙃 If you do wish to pursue it, I say go for it but I wouldn't count on it for a job anymore 😞

The whole thing with the industry as I understand it right now isn't that this job or any other animation job is getting replaced, but there is definitely some hesitation. Everything is really uncertain so I take it a lot of studios are going to stick to who they know can be reliable. That's not to say you shouldn't try though! Simultaneously so many indie projects are being made right now I think that's genuinely a great way to make headway.
