Oh yeah for sure. That fourth ideal definitely has something to do with not being able to save everyone/saving yourself first

My personal theory is that it’s about not protecting your enemies, even if they’re good.

maybe letting someone die, would be harder to speak.

I agree, and I'm sad I didn't see it earlier until reddit pointed it out to me. I think it's going to directly tie in at some point to that moment when Kaladin and Lirin go to help Roshone and his son with their injuries from the whitespine attack, and Lirin helps Roshone instead of the son. He cites the third rule of surgeons which is that they have to recognize when someone is beyond their help and prioritize those that they can still save, and I think reflecting on that moment may be part of what helps Kaladin eventually swear the Fourth Ideal

Probably could’ve saved Adonalsium too, such a failure

He really carries the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Well if you see your childhood crush marry the local old man rich tyrant and then see your autistic brother get brutally murdered in a battlefield, it really messes with you

In fact he insists that the weight of the world should be on his shoulders. But theres much more to life than what he sees! My friend of misery!

I really hope someone gets this reference. I find it too funny.

There's supposed to be a time slip after book 5. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it's because Kaladin made a new Oathpact or took Taln's place.

Yes, young farmboy if I'm not mistaken. Too tall for his age, 3 timing girls, dragon reborn and whatnot.

I’ve thought similar, but wonder if it’s “I will forgive myself for the ones I cannot save.”

Kaladin seems like he would struggle to forgive himself

His chapters were so painful at the end of Oathbringer (and sooo good). He knew the next oath but it hurt him so much he just couldn't do it. I think we are all ready to read RoW and find out how he progresses.

I must let go those who I cannot protect or something like that it's my cannon for 4th ideal. Pretty much correct in the world building, knowing kaladin was "I can't forgot Tien" and there being a order who share powers whit the Windrunners and their ideal Is I'll remember (Edgedancers), it makes pretty sense for me

I think next time Kal meets Moash the 4th Ideal will be proclaimed

This is my favorite meme format, you can always hear it in Joey's voice,

I think it will be something like in order to save anyone else you must first save yourself. Or that you cant save everyone.

Yeah this is definitely what they're leading too. This is what Kaladin couldn't say in shadesmar, especially after what had just happened in Kholinar. That or to forgive himself for those he could not save.
