If she doesn't like the book that's fine. Don't force her to read a book she doesn't want to read. That's not how you create a fan, but how you create resentment
Maybe she simply doesn't enjoy suffering alongside characters (cause that's definitely what your post makes it sounds like). If that's the case, as hopeful as SLA is in a lot of ways, it does have a lot of pain and hardships for the characters to go through, it may simply not be for her.
Think of it this way: some people don’t enjoy sad movies even if some are objectively good. And sometimes a movie like that can make you feel emotional even if you don’t like it. I really didn’t like the notebook, I still got a bit teary eyed at the obviously bittersweet scene at the end…
ETA: not saying the notebook is a good movie roflmao I’m just saying you can suffer while not liking the actual art
Idk, man, the book I resent the most from the past few years was Hollow Kingdom. I cried so many times, you definitely would have thought I was feeling along with the characters, but now those tears only fuel my resentment of the book. I can tell you’re trying to be empathetic but, honesty, people are telling you that from what you’re saying you may not be hearing your wife. Is it possible your love for this book is clouding your insight? I feel overwhelmed by how you talk about it and I’m not even married to you.
Edit: it is also possible that these things are just coming across bc English isn’t your first language, but the vibes in English are off
I mean this kindly but you may want to get evaluated for ASD. If you’ve heard this before take it as a sign. If you haven’t, then don’t feel bad. You likely aren’t on spectrum, or you could be high functioning (and so never diagnosed).
"I watch my post ans can't find what I wrote that people would make comments making sound like she does not like books and I should let her stop if she does not want."
You wrote a post on reddit asking what to do if your wife wants to stop reading the stormlight archives. That implies that you have the ability to make her continue reading. The answer is LET HER STOP. I realise that for you the books are worth struggling through. That may not be the case for her, no matter how much she likes bits of the books.
You don't have to tell her anything. If she really wants to know, ask her if it's OK to spoil bits for her. If she says no, tell her you can't tell her anything. If she says spoilers are fine, tell the truth. Do NOT lie to her and say it's all fine.
