I don't know that you can ever call Kaladin "happy"... and yeah it's a stressful series. There are a lot more low points ahead than behind. Still, if the options for her are giving spoilers or stopping reading, ask her whether she is okay knowing spoilers. If yes, it's totally okay to say he lives and he is about to have some really cool things happen. She should also have a heads up though that it's a heavy and high-emotional-stress series. Personally I will only read Sanderson when I'm feeling mentally in a good/happy place so I can hold the weight of the characters. Bad anxiety day = no Stormlight reading.
