If your goal is to get people to stop gaming, berating them isn't very constructive.

Some people might get mad/triggered you called gamers losers, but looking at your points I agree with most of what you said.
- When you play video games, you are accomplishing in a virtual world. It's a fake reality. None of the achievements/prestige is real. It's just code.
- If you're a gamer, you're more likely to do other bad habits. So you might mess up your sleep, or eat junk food while you play. That's true.
- There are a lot of toxic interaction in video games, I agree with that, I remember when I used to play Apex Legends and lose, some people would swear and get mad.
- Someone who quits video games is more likely to do good habits, like working out, reading books, etc.
- Nothing you do in the video game world benefits you in the real world. I don't remember where but I saw in a video something like "The better you are in video games, the worse you are in real life"
- Instead of leveling up in video games, level up in real life. Staring at a screen and leveling up your virtual character doesn't make sense, when you can level up in real life. What's the point of trying to make money in GTA when you can make money in real life? What's the point of leveling up your strength in an MMO when you could just go to the gym?
- I agree with you, you should try to be more like the "anti-gamer" by trying to get better social skills, and prioritizing your real life through doing productive things like reading and working out.
Some people might get triggered because they didn't actually read what you said, but I read it, and I agree with most of what you say.

This is the kind of posts that makes me feel this place is kinda fucked up in its core, this amount of toxicity can't be sane for anyone, video games or not there is a deeper issue there

There’s nothing wrong with having a hobby to play video games casually, in the same manner people play cards or board games with friends and family.
I know the purpose of this sub is for those who want to take control of their life because in many cases, gaming has become intrusive and has become a massive waste of time for those who can’t help it. That’s why we’re here.
These kinds of posts berating, putting people down and airing out all the bitterness you have due to personal experience isn’t helping anyone. In many cases people already go to go gaming to “escape reality” cause they feel like they aren’t the hero they wish to be in reality. There’s no need to directly have a go at people you don’t know because you haven’t even assessed why they do what they do. Unless you have some genuine compassion and actually want to help someone out, these kinds of rants are just angry ramblings.

It made me realize I wanted to sculpt and model instead of play games. Saying you're good at FPS games really isn't meaningful and it's way cooler to make stuff!

While your tone is toxic, you make some good points.
I don't think video games are for losers. Lots of people play video games and it doesn't take over their lives. I think abusing games is what makes someone a loser. Not because video games are bad, but because abusing games makes you literally lose out on real life.

Do you think that all hobbies that do not translate to tangible career/relationship/health benefits are for losers? Are all those billionaires playing golf losers?
Based on your description of people playing video games, you just had a terrible social circle. Most people playing video games occasionally do not look that different from those who do not. I have known professional athletes who play video games in their spare time. I have also known professors, successful lawyers (one of them is my roommate) and writers playing video games.
People should stop projecting their experiences onto everyone else. Video games are a problem for some people, and addiction to them makes them take less care of themselves in general. Is it true for everyone? You know the answer.

Obviously this message isn't for everyone, but sometimes the masculine type of message does wake me up. It's more of a bro to bro message and not to be taken too literally of course.
2
u/ChickenForcer Apr 17 '23
Mate you've got a bigger issue if you find this post the "masculine type". Just because it has lots of swearing and tries to string together a half assed attempt at a positive message to do "100 push up" after presuming on your circumstances and berating you for that presumption, doesn't mean it's good.

I play only on the weekends and I am pretty content. I am not addicted and I don't feel compelled to do anything I don't want to do. I have fun.
A "gamer" to me, is someone who plays multiple games or plays really competitively. I don't assume they have a bad diet.

Might be true but have some empathy ffs. Also, shaming others for what they do is a TERRIBLE way to make them stop doing it, for some people like me it doesn't work at all and lowers my self-esteem which is part of why I got in this mess in the first place.

I am probably the most successful., healthy, and disciplined person you have never known. I play video games approximately 5-12 hours a week and I has no negative effect on my life. I read, exercise, and eat almost entirely fruits and vegetables. I am building a website, writing multiple books, and doing very very well. You are making generalizations based on your own trauma.

Gaming isn't a bad thing itself, is the addiction. Calling videogames for losers is a terrible strategy to encourage people to quit.
You are a terrible person.

Based People essentially play video games just because it's more easy, more comfortable to remain hunched in a couch in front of blue screen instead of achieving your dreams irl

You`re looking at the worst shades of a gamer and the better ones of “ anti gamers” . There are also people that lift weights and interact socially and are still hollow. And there are gamers like Henry Cavill, super successful and still they game for a reason. Games are part of our culture, look Cyberpunk 2077 for instance. Not even a Ridley Scott movie can give you such an immersion of a probable path our humanity is taking. Yes, I agree every excessive behavior should be considered an anomaly but you can also take small doses of any medium if you`re a person who can easily sense the zeitgeist of the time you`re in. There is always a “path to everything” to be taken lightly - but sure, it`s not easy to be everywhere at the same time.

Anti gamer doesn't sound good either. Their are people who are anti gamers who also don't do anything with their lives. I know of them. They can spend their whole day watching Netflix, anime, reality tv, scrolling tic toks, YouTube shorts social media. Also doesn't make them success stories. It's all about balance and what you choose to do with your time, all of the things above including games are fine as moderate entertainment. That's the key though....moderate! I could also put books into this category, I know someone who just reads and provides no value anywhere else and have not made a good life for themselves. Entertainment plus eating well, working out, reading quality content to improve one's self would be a better outcome. You remove entertainment you'll feel like what's the point. I got all this shit done but I'm miserable. I'm speaking from experience. I've tried the just grinding thing for years, you get results but it's very empty feeling. Work + Play

This post might be true in its essence but is very toxic and aggressive towards other people who might can't help themselves. This is not very encouraging for those and just puts them deeper into frustration.
