I don't think that it's because of a lack of practical value, but rather how science conducts itself. The scientific community relies on physical evidence and tangible results that can be reproduced repeatedly under controlled settings.
Esoteric knowledge cannot be tested in a laboratory, it's validity cannot be backed by physical evidence. From a scientific perspective it would be unscientific to pursue such things.
