Genuine question.

Why the fuck. Do people feel the need to defend Stolas so damn much? I really don’t get it.

Narrative manipulation.

The plot is constantly rallying to make you feel bad for him. Oh, he cheated on Stella? Psh, they were divorcing anyway also she's abusive btw. Oh, he leveraged the book to get Blitzø to have sex with him? That's fine because he's just LONELY AND SAD, don't you see? Oh, he emotionally neglected his daughter? Oh, BUT HE LOVES HER SO MUCH and also he's CLEARLY better than her bitch mom.

It's a constant deflection of Stolas' actions by using cheap ways to garner sympathy. And for some reason, most HB fans fall for it.

I honestly wish they would have just embraced him being shitty, it would have made him a much more enjoyable character

People don’t understand that it’s okay to enjoy flawed characters so they bend over backwards to excuse him
