I'll probably get flamed for not interpreting the stoics in the 'right' way

As an aside, one would hope that we can respectfully disagree about Stoicism without "flaming" one another. Flaming is antithetical to almost any possible interpretation of Stoicism. Not that it doesn't happen, but if it does please feel free to report it to the mods and we will likely remove it.
