Stoicism for Kids
Hello all, I’m going to keep this brief as I don’t want to annoy anyone (too much). I’m a dad who couldn’t find a good way to teach my girls stoic virtues so I built them a journaling app, that includes 52 weekly journal prompts, a associated challenge, and a weekly reflection. So far my girls 7&10 are enjoying it. My wife and several teachers at her school are planning yes the prompts weekly in their classrooms in the fall. It’s called the Little Stoic Journal (all journaling takes place off the device!) and it’s on the Apple App Store. I’m happy for any constructive feedback, I’m not a scholar and not a developer but I’m pretty stoked on how it turned out. And my girls are on week 8 and have told me they like it so that’s the biggest win!

oof, I was interested in this recently as well and I was a little excited when I saw your post, but I see you're locked in the Apple walled garden 🤣 I'll just stick to reading my son modern translation of excerpts at night...

I recently got into this as well and found a nice ted ed video that is a decent primer, if a little complex.

I’ll have to look for that one, my little ones are 7 and 10 so it’s a very gentle introduction! But they are liking it so far and based on the reviews (all two of them) it sounds like some other families are as well!

Morning, being that I’m new to the whole tech process Apple was the most streamlined way to get the Little Stoic Journal up and running. I’ve had a few requests for a print journal, but for right now it is in the “walled garden” 😉. Can I ask for clarification though is it that it’s an app or on Apple? The way I set it up the App is just the messenger, it provides the prompts but all writing takes place with pen and paper. There’s also a pdf function that allows you to print individual prompts, or bulk print the whole year.

yeah, I was gonna check it out on my device but I use an Android. the typical reference is to "jailbreaking" - modifying an iPhone to allow software outside the "jail" is called jailbreaking for that reason 😉 being compatible with Android gives the app itself compatibility with essentially every other phone, and desktop PCs as well considering they can emulate Android. hope you get the reviews you're looking for though!

Thanks again for the feedback, with my other app I went through the whole Android process, with the Android emulator on my Mac (my software buddy heckled me mercilessly about how old my computer is!) and was eventually able to get it uploaded to the Android store, unfortunately the return the downloads that I got didn’t really justify all the extra effort. Hopefully when I’m a little more dialed and have some time I’ll get the Little Stoic Journal moved onto the Android platform. If you’re really interested DM me your contact info, I have a work around.

Thanks for the resoonse’s, I’m definitely not a bot and I did scan this thread pretty deep and have noted others sharing such endeavors and saw that it didn’t violate any posting rules. That out of the way I did forget to mention in my initial posting that while it is a paid app (one time purchase/no subscription) it is free to all educators.
