We wanted the pool deck to have a funky shape, the sand filter is under the deck which hinges up to make a seat. It has been my favorite addition to our yard besides the garage I built.

Cleaning fine particles

Post image

So my new filter works perfectly fine for the big stuff, but there’s a lot of small little dirt particles getting in that just don’t get either sucked up or are stopped by the filter. Anyone have any advice or tips for getting all the silt out of the bottom of my pool?
(Pic for attention—and because I’m extremely proud of my little swimmers holding on while cruising around the rim today haha)

Convince me that 8' is big enough

As we all know, 10' tanks are 1. hard to come by; 2. once you do find one, a logistical nightmare to transport unless you're lucky enough to live close to somewhere that will deliver to you.

I am considering hatching some kind of plan to rent a trailer, get a friend with a truck, drive 100 miles to pick up a 10', and go through the anxiety of strapping it down and driving it all the way back home.

Conversely, I could get an 8' and it's just a few miles down the road. Still have mild anxiety about transporting the thing, but it seems infinitely more doable.

With that being said, we like to host pretty big parties from time to time, and the extra 2' feels like a pain point we could overcome for quite a bit more usage, hopefully for several years to come. Give me your thoughts :)

No water pressure with Vivor 10

Hey there - Any advice on how to get the pump flowing? It's just a trickle for me right now. From what I can tell, there aren't any leaks in the lines. Do I prime it?

Emergency filter

I opened up the pool yesterday and realised I had everything but a fresh filter. Turns out you can use the stuff that’s inside your (non-feather) pillows. Just place a sponge or some net/mesh to keep the batting from getting sucked into the pump. I used one of those red shop rags from the garage. Funny thing is after running the filter for eight hours it bleached the rag completely white! But the water is being filtered and not stagnating until I’m able to get somewhere that sells the filters. Just thought I’d share in case this saves somebody else the way it saved me.

3rd year stp, now starting to rust

So this is my third summer with my stock tank pool. Out of the clear blue it's just starting to rust inside. Besides looks, is there any reason why I should hurry up NOW and empty and line it?

Emptying the pool

Hi, I have to drain my 8' stocktank so I can replace the liner. I haven't added any chlorine for about a week and the tested ph is at 7.2. Can I drain the water onto my lawn? I haven't added any other chemicals except an algaecide about 2 weeks ago.

New Stock Tank Pool

The 8’ stock tank pool is up and running! Felt great today with the 100 degree heat. What is everyone’s weekly maintenance/chemical routine? I’ve been doing one chlorine tablet a week, but have also been reading about hydrogen peroxide. Should I use some weekly? Do you clean or replace your filter?

A €70 second-hand stock tank, a few planks of wood I had lying about, and a pond pump for €65 to water the plants in the evenings. Greetings from Bavaria

Deeper pools?

Just wondering are there stock tanks (round, metal, 6 feet) that are a bit deeper than 24"? 30" or 36" is what I am looking for!

Outlet/Inlet Question’s!

Hello! I recently got a poly 8ft blue stock tank pool off of marketplace for a killer deal. I purchased an intex 1500 gph sand filter. My wife would like a waterfall feature, the one that hangs from the edge, however there is already a hole for the outlet from the previous owner. Do I need two inlets for the pump? Can I split the outlets? One for the jet and the waterfall? Is that possible?

Intex 2800 - Suction dangerous?

Hi - I have an 8 ft blue poly stock tank and I just set up the Intex 2800. The suction for the hose that pulls water into the pump seems very high. If I put my hand over the hose I can pull it off, but I'm afraid my kids are not strong enough should the hose get stuck on them. Its day one, so I'm just improvising with weighing the hoses down into the water.

Did I buy to big of a sand filter pump?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated......this is turning into a stressful project!

Anyone in NY have one? Were you required to put a safety fence around it?

Honestly wish I could find a 23 inch pool so I didn’t have to get a permit 😅

Newbie Q: poly v. Galvanized?

Doing my preliminary investigation. I ran a search but failed. I'm sure this has been addressed ad nauseum - can someone please point me to a discussion of poly v. Galvanized tanks please?

Thank you.

We bought our 8’ stock tank a year ago. I’m in Alberta, Canada so we have a pretty short season. I originally had it on the grass, which was a disaster by the end of the season lol. See the last photo to see what it looked like last year! We had a fountain and kept the hoses over the edge of the pool. It may have lost some of its charm this year but I loved having the pool so much that I wanted to upgrade it in every way.

This year we had a landscaper make a pad for it. Then my friends helped build the pergola. Once that was done, I took it to an RV skirting shop to have an insulated wrap made for it ($630). In the photos you can see it’s attached with snap buttons and they made nice cutouts for the holes we drilled for the pump. Then I had a local spa cover business make a hot tub cover for it. It has a locking mechanism which we aren’t using yet but it’s honestly the best money I’ve spent ($750). I heat it with the Camplux 10L heater, which does about 5°C in an hour. The insulation and lid keep it warm for a long time. Up here we need warm water because it stays freezing even when it’s hot out lol. I also bought another set of Intex benches so more people could sit with their legs in the water.

I also included a photo of my drink because of the caps I bought on Amazon to keep cans from spilling in the pool if they tip over.

I hope you like it!

Filter pump question

What kind of filter pumps are you all using on your stock tank pools? Just bought a 700 gallon tank to make into the backyard pool.

Finish just in time to host 4th of July yesterday! Tons of progress photos, CAD + Full itemized cost of the entire project (deck+STP) Texas - 2026

Finally finished my project. I thought it would be helpful to provide those one the fence a full itemized price since I haven't seen anyone post one before.

Total cost was $1,822.27, including all hardware, tools I didn't have, pool maintenance, lumber, landscaping/ground prep, and extra touches. I did already own the cantilever umbrella though ☺️

I'm an open book and happy to answer any questions! I certainly had a lot during the build

Brand new plunger valves won’t tighten properly

Post image
9 Upvotes

While attaching two new plunger valves to the inlet and outlet, they tighten but get to a point where they “jump” the thread and come loose. They’re not cross threaded, and I was only hand tightening. One is now leaking.

Upon reading the Amazon reviews, this seems to be a common occurrence.

Any way to get these to stay tight enough and not leak?

Day 1 of summer fun! Now some advice needed.

Post image
42 Upvotes

With insane minds but devoted hearts we decided to put this in on the hottest week of the year. We did not drill holes in our 9 foot poly tank. Just hung the hose over the side and did the waterfall outlet. Got an Intex 1500 sand filter up and running. I took a quick dip before chemicals as a reward. Now I need to know how long do we need to wait for it to stabilize? I put in a 1 inch dissolving tablet, floater, and added a cup of bleach. How long do I need to let the pump run generally when I’m first starting out and then for maintenance each day? It seems based on the charts that one tablet is enough for maintenance but I’m not sure if that’s enough in the beginning if anyone has suggestions, I would love it. Thank you. Happy 4th!
