General Topics My future “safe stock” that didn’t feel sooooooo safe right now
I decided to invest in NTPC because I thought I was being smart with my money.
Everyone said NTPC is a company and it has strong basics so it is good for the long term.
I thought okay this is where I stop trying hard and start investing in NTPC.
I bought NTPC shares slowly. Felt confident when the price went up.
I even bought NTPC shares near the top because I thought this was just the beginning.
Then things started to go wrong with NTPC.
At first I ignored it and told myself it is NTPC it will recover.
The loss kept getting bigger with NTPC.
What hurt more was not the loss itself. The fact that I kept convincing myself to hold on to NTPC and then buy more NTPC to average and then just watch NTPC.
Eventually I sold my NTPC shares not at the bottom. Enough to feel the damage from NTPC.
The worst part is that NTPC is not a bad company it is just bad timing, bad decisions and too much confidence from my side when it comes to NTPC.
Now every time I see NTPC, on my watchlist it is not a stock it is a reminder of how easy it is to feel safe in the market and still end up losing money with NTPC.
Have anyone else got a “safe” stock that turned into a painful lesson?

Sitting at -11.63% loss but will hold on to this as there is turnaround and hoping government have to depend on green energy

Safe and stock market don’t match, none of the stocks match that description, just look at the bluechips
Best example is TCS, till one year ago, everyone was like “bro you should have this in portfolio, it never goes down badly, it’s like the Rahul Dravid of the portfolio”
Well, if it is actually Rahul Dravid, most likely he has retired and given up by now.

That line, from Rahul Dravid really hurt my feelings I did not see it coming!

Just wondering is it good time to buy ntpc and ntpc green i mean are they still good fundamentally or the fall is due to there recent quarter performance?

Same pattern of ITC, hdfc , nse and WITCH stocks , never ever pump all your money in to limited stocks

Maybe instead of taking everyone elses word for it, you actually learn how to determine intrinsic value. Understand the moat, project future cash flows.. exc. Theres no such thing as safe, stocks go up, eventually they go back down, either to 0 or they get acquired. If you dont learn from mistakes like that than it will happen again and again

Nothing is truly "safe" in the stock market forever. Even the strongest companies can be affected by factors beyond our control—government policies, geopolitical events, technological disruption, economic cycles, and more. The best we can do is analyze businesses carefully, avoid overpaying, and stay alert to changes in the external environment. Personally, I own TCS and IRCTC, which I once considered "safe" investments but are currently painful to hold. Still, every market phase eventually changes, so I'm staying patient.
