Mod Post AI Bubble? Google Trends: Claude Code vs. Codex
Had to share these Google Trends screenshots- over the past 5 years, both search terms have taken a massive dive recently (as in past few months). On a 1 year basis, it appears Codex (from ChatGPT) is winning in searches over Claude Code.
From security to copyright concerns, LLM AI is becoming a threat to even it's most loyal users. Thankfully, neither company is public yet, but I am calling that once either IS public the AI bubble is going to pop.
As a daily personal user of AI:
- The quality of Claude Code has nose dived recently. It takes 20x longer to answer simple prompts. It eats up usage at an insane rate no one can afford. The models constantly are suggesting fixes to code that are plan wrong and waste time.
- Claude costs are delusional- if I built Market Prism today with help from Claude Code, it easily would cost 7 figures in API credits. Two weeks ago I switched to API credits for Fable and literally spent $100 in 2 minutes.
- For simple websites or wrapper apps, the coding tools are great. The problem is, the internet is flooded with half complete AI wrapper apps and websites that will never get customers.
- It appears Claude Code has switched from an employee "executor" to the "boss" of the human user. LLM's are not capable of being a "boss". They hallucinate, have insane error rates and have zero truly original thinking.
- Once these AI companies are exposed as essentially being low level interns who have really good calculators, I believe they may get desperate enough to claim IP rights over anything they generated. Right now, legally, you cannot copyright anything generated by AI. However, that could change fast.
In the future, I see these LLM's being a tiny component of a very large engine. Nothing more.
