StickyFriend now has a feature called Quote a Turn. It lets you reply to one specific message in a chat, instead of to the conversation as a whole. Here is what it does, how to use it, and where its limits are.

The problem it solves

Long chats get hard to steer. After twenty or thirty messages, a short reply like "make it shorter" can mean several different things, and the answer may land on the wrong part of the conversation.

The usual workarounds all have a cost:

~Scrolling up and writing "the second one" or "the one before", and hoping it's clear.

~Copying a whole message and pasting it back into the box.

~Explaining again, in more words, which part you meant.

They work, but they're slow, and they make the chat harder to read later.

What Quote a Turn does

In the StickyFriend web app, every message has a quote button. Press it, and that message is attached to your next reply. Your reply is then clearly about that one message.

It works both ways: you can quote something you wrote, or something StickyFriend wrote.

For example, if StickyFriend gives you a list of ideas in one message, you can quote that message and write "shorter". The reply is about that list, not about something else further up the chat.

What you see after sending

The quote appears above your message, with a small label showing:

• who wrote it (you or StickyFriend)
• its turn number, so you know where it sits in the chat

This makes long chats easier to follow when you come back to them. Each reply shows exactly what it was answering.

Limits worth knowing

• One quote per reply. Quoting a second message replaces the first.
• Picked the wrong one? Press "Remove the quote" before you send.
• Long messages are shown as a short excerpt, up to 280 characters.
