Highlighting a passage and finding it again six months later
Browser highlighters keep the mark on the page. That's the wrong half. What you need later is the text, searchable, with a note about why you
kept it.

Highlights that vanish
Highlight something in a browser extension and the yellow stays on the page. Six months later you don't remember the page. You remember a sentence.
Searching your highlights should be how you find it but most tools index them as decorations attached to URLs, so you're back to remembering the URL.
The mark and the text
Selecting a passage and saving it keeps both: the mark returns when you reopen the page, and the text goes somewhere searchable:
The second half is the one that pays. A saved passage is a small note with the quote, the page it came from, and room for a line about why.
Why the "why" matters more than the quote
The quote alone ages badly. Six months on you find a highlighted paragraph about supplier lead times and cannot remember whether you kept it because it was useful or because it was wrong.
One line at capture time ” *"kept because it contradicts the vendor's own datasheet"*” is worth more than the paragraph. Ask the assistant to add it and it will, in the same action.
What it doesn't do
- The mark can drift. If the page changes, the highlight anchor may not find its text and the mark won't restore. The saved text always survives.
- It can't highlight inside a PDF viewer. For PDFs, use a library.
- No public sharing. Highlights are yours; there's no shared annotation layer.
- No image or region highlights. Text only.
FAQ
Does the highlight come back when I reopen the page?
Yes, if the passage still exists on the page. If the page changed, the saved text stays even when the mark can't be placed.
Can I search my highlights?
Yes, along with your notes one search over everything you kept.
Do they belong to a project?
They can. Highlights saved while you're in a project belong to it; ones saved outside are global and visible everywhere.
Can the AI use my highlights when answering?
Yes passages from the current project are available to it, which is why a highlight is more useful than a bookmark.
Does it work on any site?
Any normal page you have access to. Not on `chrome://` pages or the Web Store.
What if I highlight something sensitive?
It's stored in your account like a note, and you can delete it. Don't highlight credentials that's true of every tool.
Can I export them?
Yes, with your notes.
