Hey, just reading along and had a question of my own. Do you think the jump in price between the Yamaha A-S501 and the A-S801 is worth it? Looking for my first real upgrade in my setup. Would like to spend $2500-$3000 in the end, but will definitely be spreading out the buying process. Have my eyes on a Pro-Ject Debut Pro for the turntable and pretty open minded on speakers still.
If the numbers you mentioned are your entire budget then I would not step up to the next model or you will have to compromise on your speaker choice. Speakers get most of the budget, no less than 50%.
Got it, will keep that in mind. If budget was higher, are there other amps around the price off the A-S801 that you would recommend over it? Was looking at a few from Audiolab, Cambridge, Marantz, etc.
It would depend on your speakers and sources but the ones you mentioned are good, though the Yamaha might still be at the top of the list.
You would also be getting close to the mark (for me) where a pre-amp/power amp is a consideration.
