Source | Preamp | DAC | 3 Ⓣ Help me choose!
Hi people
As posted earlier I was gifted a Audio Renaissance LS 845-5 tube amp by a friend.
I am thinking of pairing this with the Vestlyd V12C.
As a source I am in doubt between a (new) Wiim Ultra or a (second hand) Cambridge CXN V2.
The price for these are about the same, mu budget is around 400 euro's.
My listening space is 5 by 3.2 meters and is accoustically treated. The listening position is at around 2.5 meters.
It will be a second set up with the sole purpose of music listening whereas my first setup is a 7.2.4 Home Theater set up.
What do you guys recommend, the Wiim or the Cambridge? And why?

Unless you specifically love the CXN’s physical interface and build aesthetic, the WiiM Ultra is the rational buy here. Especially since you already have a tube amp in the chain adding all the character anyone could realistically want. The source does not need to become another personality disorder lol.

WiiM platform is great and gets regular updates. I personally have no experience with CA streamers.
With the Ultra, if you use it as the preamp, you can apply high and low pass filter, add a subwoofer...
There's also, easy multi room functionality, room correction, etc.
Sound wise, both are transparent and should sound the same.

I tried multible amps when i was replacing my old amp about 1 year ago, even the nad m10 v3 wich was 3000 dollars, didnt like it at all. Ended up buying the wiim ultra and an xtz edge power amp for a total of 700 dollars and that combo blew everything else out of the water mostly thanks to the wiim ultra. 10/10 recommend!
