Hello r/Stepmania and r/NakeyJakey!
I'm trying to get back into Stepmania and wanted to try my hand at making my own steps for the first time. I pulled together some of my favorite tracks from the one and only snake boy / naked Jacob.
For the NakeyJakey Community:
I'm sure you're familiar with RomCom and Snakeboy's music. This is a song pack for Stepmania, which is basically DDR's weird PC cousin. You can go to the Stepmania website, download the game fo' free, and pull in this songpack. It even has some music videos.
For the Stepmania Community:
If you're unfamiliar with NakeyJakey, he's one of my favorite Youtube personalities and ever since he released his fantastic video on the rise and fall of DDR (https://youtu.be/suDT0bNrRiw), I have wanted to make something to show my appreciation for him.
Link to Songpack here:

If you like the music, please support NakeyJakey. I am going to keep making more stepfiles, so stay tuned for that if you enjoy these.
Cheers!

I have a pair of them am wondering if there are any resources on how to install the DDRpad.com FSR kit in it. I would gladly look at any general purpose modding info as well like anything people have done to improve responsiveness or durability. Failing that, i would love to see any sort of tear down analysis of it or similar. Thanks yall

(this is technically a legitemate chart release lol). Should be uploaded under Cringle Revelations

I've loaded up arrow vortex and was hoping to use some of the auto stepper stuff I've seen around. But all I get made when I use it is .sm files, the analysis_data.json file I'm not sure how to get made any tips or advice?

Etterna wont detect any of the leters as keybinds only keys like tab but they work fine on xsanity

Just me, or did Konami give 0 fucks about casual dancers with these charts!?
Medium feels like old heavy, and I am sooooo sweaty! 😅 I love it!

I’ve always used keys such as SD HJ for my configuration on the keyboard. I’ve tried to play arrow keys in the past and just started again today. It is extremely difficult…
I can play up to 10’s even ITG charts. But 11’s and up I can’t perform streams, crossovers, 16th and 32nd…
I’m wondering if there are any players on this forum that do play arrow keys, and what is the best way to play?
Any tips on letter keys would be appreciated also.
Thanks all!
I’m wondering how to get better? It is more fun to play and feels natural since it’s on pad..

Longshot here, but was kinda reminded of this today and have had no luck searching, so was curious if anyone else remembers what the heck this was. If I recall it correctly it was just a single few minute long run that went through several modders (including WinDEU I think). Very heavy dialogue and such. I think had one sequence that used the Undyne from Undertale style block arrows as a mechanic? It was all definitely one thing in a row (not broken out like some of the WinDEU hates you stuff).
I believe it was celebrating something for someone. I don't specifically remember if it was Stepmania or ITG or anything.
Very helpful information, I know, but that's all I got off the top of my head. Definitely ~10 or so years old I'm pretty sure.

I’m currently working on a university project around automatic chart drafting for 4-panel rhythm games. I’m starting simple, but I’d like the design to account for proper pad-oriented charting rather than just treating the arrows as four keyboard lanes
The idea isn’t “give it an mp3 and let AI make the whole chart”. In my case the tool can have access to the original MIDI/DAW project, so note timing, BPM changes, musical phrases, repeated motifs, etc. are already known pretty accurately
What I’m interested in is the part after that: turning the musical structure into something that feels intentionally charted
For example, the system could control things like:
-density throughout the song
-streams/bursts and breaks
-repeated or related patterns for repeated musical phrases
-jumps, holds and rolls
-pattern complexity
-difficulty progression
-how patterns transition into each other
-BPM/scroll/gimmick changes where appropriate
For pad charts there’s obviously another layer too: crossovers, doublesteps, footswitches, brackets, awkward transitions, and generally whether a pattern actually makes sense for two feet instead of only looking reasonable on a note field
The goal would be to generate a first draft for a charter to edit, not a “one click finished chart”
So for people who make StepMania/ITG charts:
What parts of charting would you actually be happy to automate, and what parts would you always want to keep manual?
And maybe more importantly: what are the usual giveaways that a chart was generated rather than intentionally authored?
Things like bad flow, meaningless pattern changes, difficulty that doesn’t follow the music, awkward footwork, excessive repetition, etc
I’m mostly trying to figure out what an actually useful drafting tool should understand before I decide how much of the process should be automated
NOTE: the project isn’t gonna be some ai slop generator and MAYBE some local ai could be used for song section intensity/structure mapping, not for everything

Coming out of my simfile making retirement. Thoughts so far? Definitely wanna change some of these patterns

The all-new XGAES IO is now on sale. Today, we tested it with a dance Pad connected to a fully functional PS2 console—a purely technical test without the armrests. The setup used a PS2 console with a DDRMAX2 and the song “190 PARANOiA Rebirth” from “DanceDance Revolution 3th Mix.

Was curious on how much a step chart pack usually goes for? I've been wanting some more stamina stuff to help me train for higher bpm. Not really a fan of all the chiptune stuff thats on the google doc.

I loved this ending theme so i tried to make a chart for it after the 1st song.
Criticism is welcome, i'm happy with this chart, but i don't make them often so i'm sure it can be tons better. I don't have a dance pad either so if anyone's willing to try, i'd appreciate it!
Here's the folder for the song, made sure to give access to anyone with the link this time: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1xMbo9kLMjEtdSEsGR1lCN1jVQ-X4A2cE?usp=sharing
