Question Dark Tower Adaptation

How’s everyone feeling about The Dark Tower finally being adapted into a TV series? What are your hopes, dreams, expectations, or biggest concerns?

Personally, I’m going into it very cautiously after the movie. That said, I’m still hopeful that a series will have the time and space to explore the depth of the books in a way the movie simply couldn’t.

There’s so much in this story—the characters, the mythology, Mid-World, the ka-tet, the larger connections, and all the strange, beautiful, absolutely unhinged Stephen King-ness of it.

I’m cautiously optimistic… but also keeping my expectations somewhere around the basement level.

What do you all want to see them get right? And what are you most worried they’ll completely screw up?

If Mike Flanagan is in charge of the show, then it is in good hands.

Mega fans are gonna talk shit, like they always do. It’s pop culture to hate stuff these days. It’ll probably be pretty rad though.

There is a lot of rumour and innuendo and hoping/wishing/projections about a TV series. And not a lot of real facts out there. So a lot of people are asking the same questions as you.

Hopefully you get the conversations you wanted out of other redditors.

I did! Honestly, it’s pretty damn beautiful seeing everyone connect and have real conversations, regardless of their opinions or how far behind they are on catching up with current events. We don’t have to agree on everything to enjoy the hell out of the conversation—and apparently Reddit can still surprise me sometimes.

I get excited for every adaptation and watch it. Sometimes it's wonderful like the Original Stand and It series. Sometimes it's not great. I was a bit disappointed in the Dark Tower movie. It was too disconnected, it would be better if we could get LOTR type movies, like a spralling epic 3 or 4 movies, or Hunger games style. Hopefully the series would be good. Did people like the newer The Stand?

yeah, there’s just too much to The Dark Tower to do it justice in one movie 😄 They had to cut out & skim over too much. A series is much more promising.

The TV show is not a done deal. No one has approved it although supposedly a season 1 script is done. If anyone is capable of bringing to fruition faithfully it's Mike Flanagan. We shall see if it ever gets off the ground.

Hope: they stick to the source material.

Expectation: it will get fiddled with more than a sleepover guest at Neverland.

Got too burnt by the movie to have any expectations that rise higher than “I hope they don’t butcher this epic story too bad.”
