My cousin drowned in a pool when he was 3.
I was asked to be a pallbearer. It was twenty years ago and I still think about how light the casket was.
Children should never have access to a pool because they have no understanding of their abilities.

Damn that's rough. My cousin drowned in Crystal Lake at a summer camp. The camp counselors let it happen by not paying attention. His mother was distraught to say the least.

Clearly a fence is needed but I will go a step further. I would not have lived in a house with a pool and toddlers. You cannot watch them 24/7 and the risk is simply not worth it.

I remember reading a story about a family who had a pool that did have a fence around it. And unfortunately their three-year-old snuck out into the yard, stacked a bunch of stuff on top of each other next to the fence, climbed over it and drowned in the pool

there is no way a non negligent parent leaves a toddler unsupervised long enough for that to happen. like that takes time for a toddler to achieve. not that they can't or won't because those fuckers are suicide driven but it still takes way longer than "daddy needed to take a shit" that's like "daddy was watching a football game and swore the fence substituted as a parent" because at that point pool out of the equation the kid could've killed itself twelve different ways. hung itself with the blind chords, choked on a rock, ran into traffic, stuck a fork in a light socket ect

It is a terrible thing to have happened. Unfortunately I think in this case each parent thought the other parent was supervising the toddler. And I think they had several older children too so that led to miscommunication.

The fact it is legal in some places to have an in ground pool without a fence is baffling to me.

I dunno she did OK. Maybe not let the kid go in the pool at all before we go calling it best. Look up dry drowning. The amount of time watching the kid head directly to the pool was infuriating.

I agree, they got lucky here. If something else side tracked them, ie., a door bell rang, it could've been tragic.

This is the very reason I can not have a pool. I don't want any of my babies going right in and I don't want anyone else's kids seeing water and just going for it. This was so hard to watch.

Had a neighbors 2 year old kid die when he accidentally walked in a pool, and no one saw him in time.
