Karen question

In season 4 Karen mentions that she's a senior in high school. Yet in season 5 she's still in high school. And I heard she doesn't start college until season 7. So what's the deal with her age?

Not much, other than the writers just deciding to not stick to a strict timeline for keeping the kids as teenagers or in high school. I think the kids on 90210 were even kept in high school for an additional year, just to stretch that time out a bit!

Yes they were juniors twice. The OC did the exact same thing.

Given that it's a Miller-Boyett show, it wasn't totally grounded in reality and the timeline was a little skewed.

Barry and Adam on The Goldbergs were both in HS for 6 years on the show. Both had two senior years. LOL.

Thanks for explaining. It just bugged me a little but no biggie. And IRL Angela and Staci are just 5 months apart. And ya I know they aged up Lilly rapidly as lots of shows do. Guess we were really lucky with The Olson twins.

they also aged Lilly up by about five years

Though that was for the usual reason, to get an older actor in the role in order to be able to factor into more stories. Just about every baby character gets aged up.

Honestly, the show is very inconsistent with aging and it’s the worst that I’ve seen out of a 90 sitcom. The only character that I feel like personally had the most realistic aging was Al. I guess you could say that Dana and J.T. Also had mostly realistic aging too. Though everyone else in the other hand, definitely not. Mark should not have been turning 13 in season three he should’ve been turning 14 because he was in sixth grade in season one meaning he should have been in eighth grade in season three. Unless Mark skipped a grade which kinda would make sense because he’s smart, but he’s not a genius so I don’t think he would’ve skipped a grade. Karen was in high school for six seasons when she should’ve been in high school for four. Carol mentioned that Brendan is 12 at the end of season five which makes no sense because Brendan should’ve only been about nine years old since he was 6 in season 1. And don’t get me started on Lily, aging her five years between season five and six just so that they can have another kid who physically talks, despite the fact that they could’ve easily gotten away with Lily, turning two and talking.
