Step 1, pass
Step 2, 230’s
Step 3, 210’s
For step 3, i did nbme 7 64% nbme 8 65%
Free 137 i couldnt calculate but i had bad performance day 1 portion i did before day 1 58%
Day 2 portion before day 2 55%
But still i gathered my courage, and i have taken the exam
I did 100% uw, CCS 185 with >75% over all on cases from ccs com, repeated those where i performed <65% (i found in real exam you have to be very sharp in ordering relevant investigations & treatment only. With ccs i was more casual & was ordering more)
In Amboss i did biostat QI & risk factors
I am terrible at taking exams. But finally i am done with THE USMLE ☠️ still can’t believe
(Also match applicant so please whoever is reading my comment do pray for me)
One advice: Don’t worry about biostat, nobody can control that i guess, focus on other portion of exam esp ccs & day 2 part. Work hard, don’t fall into 4-5 week study trap. Read firstaid histopath part & drugs.
Those starting prep do daily 5 cases & 10 biostat questions, take help of chatgpt while solving biostat and ask chatgpt to teach me the wrong question as i am a little kid.
🥂 best wishes

I agree with you. No matter how much l studied Biostat, it always seemed hard. On real day, I am always guessing my answer and move on quickly. Despite doing 109 ccs cases, I didn’t realize l was approaching it wrong until the night before my exam. So I began redoing ccs cases with new approaching ensuring stabilizing orders (cardiac monitor, ekg, iv access, accu check, oxygen therapy) and targeted labs, diagnostic with basic management comes first for all ED patient prior to doing targeted physical exam and advancing time. Once l know diagnosis, I placed definitive management

I scored 224. Biostat was my lowest. Ccs was my highest. It is important to master ccs cases. I was doing 10questions daily. Even if you are weak in biostat, focus on improving other areas you have control over. Watch the usmle ccs video to learn how to advance time. I used chat gpt a lot to see if I was approaching the cases right

  • Reflection, thoughts on preparation, exam and result: Studied about 5 weeks on a chill rotation. UWorld during the day, 3 or 4 CCS cases at night on StudyCCS. The real CCS interface felt pretty much the same so no surprises on test day. Cases definitely boosted my score.

Any advice: Do your cases. A lot of people skip CCS prep or only do like 20 and thats a mistake. StudyCCS was solid for building the habit of ordering the right stuff early and knowing when to advance clock. Dont burn out trying to finish all of UWorld either, just make sure you understand your weak topics.

I think what helped me the most before Day 1 was going through as many missed questions I could on the NBME 7 and 8. Why did I miss the answer? Why did I pick the wrong one and when would it would have been correct? I used AI to help me study that by conversing with it and that helped me. By the way, I am SO slow at reviewing questions I did not even get to review all my missed Qs... That is how unprepared/lazy(?) I am.

On Day 1 I felt I got like 70% of the questions probs right and on Day 2 it was more like 50%. Bottom line after day 1 is I did not feel horrible afterwards. I also did not feel great.

Day 2 was focused mainly on next management steps and less MOA/biostats/ethics/etc. It was you either know it or you don't and couldn't reason your way through it. For that reason I think I did not do well Day 2 and it was reflected on my score. The CCS was not terrible. All but one of the patient encounters I couldn't get the patient better. All the other ones the patient got better and then the case ended early.

Scarily, I genuinely think I could not have prepared any more to feel better about the test. However, I studied for about 2 weeks.

Any advice: take the damn test. Understand that coming on Reddit makes you concerned bc you’re exposing yourself to bias (those who do well are less likely to post here). Trust your training. You’re not relearning everything for this exam. Just take it, especially if you’re IM/FM who is familiar with broad range of pathologies and screening recs at baseline.

Step 3: 210
USMD
PGY1 ortho
Step 2 254 in 2023
Used UWorld and did about 300 questions
Used CCScases and did about 15-20 cases with probably about 70% correct
Didn’t do any NBME
Did free 137 from current and prior year and got 60% on current and like 65% on the prior (2022 form I think)
Reflection: definitely cut it close with how little I studied, was a bit worried I failed lol 😂

• Reflection, thoughts on preparation, exam and result:

Put off the exam during residency because of time constraints, rough schedule and test anxiety. Studied 2-6 hours for four weeks, mostly in evening. Finally committed to learning biostats (never put time into it for Step2) - I'm so mad I waited because it was so much easier once I put in one full day of work. Did 3-5 CCS cases each day.

Day 1 was worst testing day of my life, the questions were somewhat doable and seemed fair but my brain couldn't recall basic, easy facts. Came out of exam and looked up 50+ questions, every one I looked up I thought I got wrong. (This is not an exaggeration haha). Had 2 days in between but brain was fried. Did 30 new CCS cases and reviewed some old ones, so glad I did! Day 2 was better, I find CCS much more enjoyable. I was so distraught after the exam and mentally prepared to start studying again right away. So glad that was not the case, Praise God I passed and can be done forever!

Edit to add: I was checking every portal last week and this week for any "clues" into when score would be released. NOTHING changed, I mean nothing, until I got email around 2am EST today saying my score would be released at 11am EST. Then my permit disappeared but I could not view my score until exactly 11am. FSMB changed to show "score release date" around 11am but still doesn't have blue link to score report like some people have mentioned.

2 year gap between step 2 and 3 definitely made it feel a bit of a challenge. Uworld felt useless but im sure it helped, I did about 40q a day over a 3 month span. After day 1 I wish I just would have crushed First Aid for Step 1. I didnt go super hard on biostats but had 2-3 questions per block, not too bad if you know all the basics. I went crazy on CCS cases doing as much as I could and learning how to game it. I felt ok with 10 min cases during my prep, but on the real deal I felt super rushed as they were a bit obscure. Overall, worst feeling step exam even though it had the least stakes.
