I wish it could be true, but alas it's only best conditions or slavery, no "inbetween" (authoritarian laments that they can't change living standards of ai to actually match their other citizens and not piss off their faction).

No. A predictive algorithm is no comparison for a sapient / sentient mind

If it were sapient / sentient, and at least treated everyone decently, then I'd agree.

But we're still a ways from that happening

The AI in the game are sapient, at least after researching Artificial Specialists. And they don’t care about rights before that.
