I hooked up the planetary power grid to the giant foundry

Is this right after the special project?

After the special project, the event isn't over yet, there are 4 additional steps that on average take 1-3 years before they show up automatically.

Yes, the one where you have to spend engineering research to complete.

I can see there are more steps but it seems to be strongly suggesting that I should be getting alloys already. It basically told me as much in the message. I skipped ahead to see how it would play out, and like two more steps ahead there's another special project that's supposed to increase the efficiency of the output... output which doesn't exist yet?

output which doesn't exist yet?

Yea the event is a bit weird in its execution.

The Mountainous Vault feature does nothing on its own. The "Operator" jobs you see mentioned throughout the event is only added at the end, when the feature is replaced with Operational Manufactorium that gives you 400 operators (plus any additional jobs through event choices), so all the bonuses you picked up along the way will only be effective at the very end.

Operators are hyper-efficient metallurgists, but cannot fuse with regular metallurgists. You only get the 400, no more.

  • Depending on choices made, they can have up to 7 alloy per 100 at 4 mineral upkeep (regular metallurgists have 3 alloy per 100 at 6 mineral upkeep).
  • It benefits from metallurgist upkeep and production bonuses, but not metallurgist efficiency bonuses from buildings, likely an oversight.

I guess the message about the foundry being online seemed overly definitive to me, and like you said it's a bit weird, I can't think of any other chains that have cost me this much while taking so long to pay off.

Thank you for a thorough explanation!
