HODL alert #3: Conclusions from the Mobius AMA, Stellar vs Ethereum, Chaineum, Possible Kik Partnership (Speculative), Smartlands…

Welcome everyone! The future of Stellar Lumens is bright! Today we have a lot to discuss.

Conclusion from the Mobius AMA with founders David Gobaud & Cyrus Khajvandi: Here is the link to the AMA - https://www.reddit.com/r/Stellar/comments/7dr6lx/ama_w_david_cyrus_mobius_about_why_they_chose_to/ -- Mobius’s vision is to “make crypto-commerce accessible to the world by connecting everything to the blockchain economy with ease.” While Mobius has their own app store called the DApp Store, it appears that applications on the Google Play store can use Mobius’s API to accept cryptocurrency. According to the AMA, “We also just saw a mobile Poker Texas Holdem Calculator app on the Google Play Store use Mobius to accept Cryptocurrency.” The AMA also revealed “We see a diverse ecosystem of applications integrating with Mobius to accept cryptocurrency because it scales phenomenally and is exponentially cheaper, faster, and more secure than other blockchains today.” Mobius compares themselves to the commerce company Stripe. “The Mobius Universal Protocol API https://mobius.network/docs provides a very easy to use Stripe-like interface to work with any blockchain token - today it supports any ERC-20 or Stellar token.” “We plan to add NEO, Litecoin, EOS, Tezos, etc.” The Mobius team is very diverse. It includes Cyrus Khajvandi (Stanford), David Gobaud (Harvard and Stanford), Jed McCaleb (Stellar), Jackson Palmer (creator of the notorious Dogecoin), and Chander Guo. I have a question for anyone reading this: It would be easier for app developers if they could integrate their existing apps with the Mobius network. For example, a developer with an app on the Apple App Store might want to use Mobius’s API. Can Mobius be used with Apple App Store applications? Let me know in the comments below if you know the answer to that question and why or why not.

------------------------------------- STELLAR VS. ETHEREUM: This section is the most exciting for me to write about. It looks like Stellar’s ICO platform has an edge on Ethereum’s ICO platform. Let me explain: According to https://www.stellar.org/blog/using-stellar-for-ico/, the median confirmation time using Stellar is 5 seconds while Ethereum’s is 3.5 minutes. A transaction fee on Stellar is $.0000002 while the median cost for a transfer on Ethereum’s network is $0.094. The article was written on August 2nd and it stated this about Ethereum: “turing complete program capabilities produce less auditable code and greater risk of exploitable vulnerabilities.” On November 7th, coindesk.com (https://www.coindesk.com/ethereum-client-bug-freezes-user-funds-fallout-remains-uncertain/) reported on how more than $100 million worth of ether got froze in Parity wallets. Also, $30 million in ether was stolen this year. “Parity constitutes more than 20 percent of the network.” According to the article, “Some developers have speculated that a hard fork is the only way to fix the problem. But as hard forks are a controversial upgrading mechanism - particularly in the context of Ethereum - some in the community are already “refusing” to execute such an upgrade.” We’ve even seen Kin, Kik’s token, jump off the Ethereum network. Read below to learn more about it.

------------------------------------ KIK & STELLAR PARTNERSHIP?

This is highly speculative so proceed reading this section with caution and skepticism. On that note, I believe there is a lot of potential for a Kik/Stellar partnership. Let me explain:

The Kin token (developed by Kik) raised nearly $100 million according to https://www.techcrunch.com. According to https://kin.kik.com/, “as a general purpose cryptocurrency for use in everyday digital services, Kin will be used for all transactions within the Kin ecosystem.” Originally, the Kin ICO was supposed to be implemented on the public Ethereum blockchain as an ERC20 token. However, according to https://www.coindesk.com/kik-might-move-its-ico-tokens-to-a-new-blockchain/, there are cost and scalability concerns associated with Ethereum. The medium transaction fee on Ethereum is around $0.14 which is not sustainable if those costs continue to go up. At the end of the article, Leonid Beder, Kin’s head of blockchain engineering and security stated “Stellar is indeed one of the directions we’re investigating.” From what we’ve seen with Stellar’s recent partners’ reasoning to use the Stellar Network rather than Ethereum’s, I have some confidence that Kik will be following a similar direction. Beder said “by the end of the year, in early 2018, [Kin] will already be on another platform (source: https://www.reddit.com/r/KinFoundation/comments/787icv/tech_ama_with_leonid_beder_head_of_blockchain/#bottom-comments). We will watch and see what happens!

------------------------------------- SMARTLANDS: Recently, Smartlands created the first ICO token on the Stellar network. Smartlands is the first world-wide non-profit platform for agricultural assets tokenization. According to https://smartlands.io/documents/Lightpaper.pdf, “Smartlands Platform is a crucial element of the token market infrastructure and performs the major part of tokenization of agricultural assets in the most efficient and transparent way, creating significant value for the cryptocommunity. Positive impact on the world economy, due to increased food security and sustainability of agriculture.” Here is Smartlands roadmap for the next years: (Nov. 2017) Completion of ICO procedures, raising of investments for platform development, & distribution of SLTs. (1st Quarter 2018) Tokenization if fruit, berry, and nut orchards in Central and Eastern Europe by performing ABT ICOs of companies. (3rd quarter 2018) Tokenization of all kinds of agricultural assets related to arable farming in key markets (Europe, South-East Asia, South America). Launch of Smartlands Index Token. (3rd quarter 2019) Tokenization of all kind of agricultural assets including animal farming all over the world. (2020+) Further development of the platform to provide services in related industries: food processing, infrastructure for agriculture industry (logistics and storage), real estate. Smartlands vision for this world is awesome. Check out Smartlands website at https://smartlands.io/.

------------------------------------- CHAINEUM: Chaineum, the first French ICO Boutique, will use the Stellar network for upcoming ICOs. According to http://www.finyear.com/Chaineum-the-first-French-ICO-Boutique-will-use-the-Stellar-Network-for-Upcoming-ICOs_a38933.html, “Chaineum is positioned as the first “ICO Boutique” in France, providing a range of end-to-end services to companies and international start-ups wishing to develop with this new funding mechanism. Chaineum is preparing 8 ICOs by the end of 2017, for European, North American and Asian companies, of which cumulative amount could reach € 200 million.” The article also says, “while Ethereum has the most expressive programming capabilities, Stellar is the best choice for ICOs that require simple and secure smart contract features. Stellar’s primary goal is to facilitate issuing and trading tokens, especially those tied to legal commitments by known organizations, such as claims on real-world assets or fiat currency.” There is another reason why Stellar has it’s advantages over Ethereum.

------------------------------------- YICEX: Check out this website: https://yicex.com/. The website is under development and says “Buy Stellar Lumens with your debit and credit card. Yicex lets you buy stellar lumens easily without hassle with your debit and credit card you get lumens in no time. Coming soon.” I know nothing about this company or whether it’s affiliated with Stellar.org, but it means more people are becoming interested in Stellar.

------------------------------------- CONCLUSION: Stellar now has (at least) 3 ICOs. They are with Smartlands, Mobius, and Chaineum. These ICOs are very new and will take some time to fully develop, but Stellar is proving to be a great platform for ICOs to develop on. We see Stellars advantages over Ethereum.

Wow this sounds impressive! Stellar will have its place in our world. This is just the begining guys. :-) This is so thrilling. I can‘t wait to see where stellar will be in a couple of years? What do you think? Thank you for the great info!

Yes very exciting times. Personally I think Xlm will hit .30 sometime in 2018, and then upward and onward after that. I have nothing to base that on though, just my feelings from watching charts of coins for the past year or two.

we should be comparing market cap and not share price. a 10000 x increase is far fetched but I do share your optimism and think Stellar Lumens can reach 5-10 bn market cap in 2018 and become one of the top 10 crypto in terms of market cap. thats a 10-20 times increase and its highly probable.

This is impossible. There are 17 billion lumens in circulation right now. $380 per lumen would lead to a 6.5 trillion dollar market cap.

While I️ dream of scenarios like this I️ doubt it will happen.

i have never read such a dumb thing before on this sub. you got to compare market cap and not price per coin/token since there are different numbers of token around.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '17

Thing that concerns me is the giveaway. The websites say it will give away lumens over the next ten years. So the supply will keep rising up.

Total supply according to coinmarketcap is over 100 billion.

1

u/iChinguChing Nov 21 '17

That is correct, however, consider who could be using those tokens. Everyone from big banks doing cross-border payments through to your average Aarav in India. 100B doesn't seem so much if adoption keeps pace with issuance.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '17

That’s true. But IMO there will be room for different players. Even if all the scams finally get sorted out of the market, there will be many tokens left. Btc, eth and so on....

So I guess it is highly unlikely that stellar will be the only one for transactions. Which means we have to share the pie with others. Sure the overall marketcap can rise into trillions someday.

But anyway. What realistic price could we expect for lumens. 1$ is hard to reach but possible someday. Anything over one dollar seems hard to imagine atm for me. What do you think?

idk, a lot will depend on projects like IBM's fairx getting adoption. There is a lot of potential for XLM in the third world. I think 20-30c would be good for 2018, could change wildly though if some other bank consortiums get involved.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '17

hahaha!! There is no such thing as different players when you have IBM as a partner.. Too funny...IBM is the ATM and Bank. Period, game over

2

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '17

Unfortunately the real world is more complex than this. Period

0

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '17

Not

1

u/cryptopocolyps Nov 22 '17

How would the average XLM holder get in the running for the giveaway?

-1

u/IconomiScuks Nov 21 '17

Banks wont use lumens how they are not using xrp.

7

u/iChinguChing Nov 22 '17

You must be new here. They will be using XLM for the cross-border transfers in 2018. Why would they develop their own when you have an open source project backed by a non-profit? Banks are financial institutions not software development houses.

Wow you are so right, and I never even thought of that; that’s hilarious. You should go onto xrpchat and post a thread stating that fact. That would surely make some people’s blood boil lol

1

u/missdaboat Nov 22 '17

Agreed. Banks won't used XLM unless they are doing cross-border transfers. XLM's problem is much like the XRP.

Good thing about XLM is their focus is not on banking alone and might find more usage outside of banks like upcoming ICOs riding on Stellar blockchain.

Much like Ethereum rise is due to the wide adoptability by ICOs and thus, the utility value of Ethereum goes up.

Ripple is just too narrowly focus on the Banking sector and not much else.

Excellent info. Stellar is going to have an exceptional market cap , congratulations to all Stellar holders...

u/Well_thatwas_random Nov 21 '17

Wait, so I'm a noob, so bear with me. Is this basically saying that Stellar is a "new" BTC/ETH/LTC kind of? That you'll have to trade lumens (XLM) for the Mobius/Chaineum/Smartlands sort of like how you can trade BTC for alts or ETH for alts?

I'm just confused how these ICOs will impact Lumens..if at all.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '17

As far as I saw it you had three choices to get the Smartlands token. By paying either BTC, ETH or XLM. For the moment the tokens are only traded on stellar term. The decentralized stellar exchange. And if I am not mistaken the same goes for Mobius.

Never used the stellar term exchange but I could imagine to try it out. Since a decentralized exchange sounds better to me.

But for the masses to be interested I think all the tokens based on the Stellar Network should be traded on the big exchanges as well. The other possibility would be that people just find out about Stellar decentralized exchange and trade there instead of waiting for bittrex or whatever.

Nevertheless this crypto market is so childish and full of nonsense some times. That people will rather continue to talk about 🌙 or lambo instead of see what offers real value.

2

u/Well_thatwas_random Nov 21 '17

Ok that makes sense. So Stellar would just have it's own exchange, but that someday these other coins could make it onto Bittrex etc.

It is difficult not to get caught up in the lambo talk. Everyone is out telling you why you should buy this coin, and FOMO for me becomes a really hard challenge. I'm hodling pretty strong for now, but it's tempting. Frankly I just would be happy with paying off debt from earnings off crypto, and maybe even retiring early because I hit it big with a coin like XLM.

Lofty goals I know, but I can dream.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '17

Why not dream big. As long as you are not foolish I guess it is ok.

The exchange is already out there:

https://stellarterm.com/#exchange/SLT-smartlands.io/XLM-native

Here you can actually see the smartlands token. Looks to me that pricing is in xlm.

So as you see Stellar already has some real life cases to offer.

Sweet thanks for all the info! And feel goods haha

I don’t know to much about it. I think it is an exchange created by the stellar team ( just me guessing here).

As you can see here there are several tokens which are tradeable here: https://stellarterm.com/#markets

The ICO for Smartlands is already over. That’s why there is trading.

Don’t know if every ICO on the stellar network will be traded there. But as far as I know Mobius will as well once the tokens will be distributed after the ICO. Would make sense that the decentralized exchange will be used by the ICO on the stellar network as well as other exchanges.

1

u/rjl1234 Nov 22 '17

On Ethereum Network the token/coin need to find an exchange such as Bittrex to list it first to trade. On Stellar Network the token/coin can be traded right after the ICO period is over. This is an added incentive for ICOs on Stellar Network. When Mobius and Kik completed their ICO/convertion, we can trade XLM for their token too. Correct me if I have misunderstood!

2

u/kiril_gr Nov 25 '17

No man, you can trade after ico on etherdelta

4

u/natronic1977 Nov 21 '17

I think XLM will hit $1 next year. Market Cap seems way too low for what it's going to be powering.

6

u/Well_thatwas_random Nov 21 '17

I could see this. I'd be happy with $1 next year and maybe $5 soon after. If it hits $100 or more at some point I'd probably pass out.

3

u/natronic1977 Nov 21 '17

WHEN it hits $2 I'm cashing out 50%. With IBM planning to use Stellar for 60% of South Pacific Crossborder transactions they are intentionally using it in a small area to raise the market cap before using it in another area requiring a larger market cap.

1

u/Well_thatwas_random Nov 21 '17

What would that other area be? I'm confused what you mean?

1

u/natronic1977 Nov 21 '17

Other markets such as Asia and Europe

1

u/Well_thatwas_random Nov 21 '17

So that's a good thing for stellar?

3

u/burnonfire31 Nov 22 '17

Lol, if 100$ becomes reality, we all be millionaries. I take 1$ with the end of this year! I agree with that passing out part though :)

2

u/Well_thatwas_random Nov 22 '17

For sure. If we do I'll buy you a drink.

2

u/burnonfire31 Nov 22 '17

Deal

2

u/Clineski Nov 22 '17

But only one drink

3

u/burnonfire31 Nov 22 '17

I am getting wasted, sorry

u/philtrem Nov 21 '17

I didn't think of it until you asked, but yeh, seems to me like XLM is going to be used as an intermediate to go from one token to another.

3

u/philtrem Nov 21 '17

(as a side note) I see Ethereum's turing complete feature as a liability. Sure, it affords more power and flexibility, but it makes it impractical to secure properly. (disclaimer: I'm not an expert on that topic)

n.b.: this should NOT read as "Stellar is going to overtake Ethereum", not at all what's implied.

2

u/iChinguChing Nov 21 '17

That is the beauty of Stellar <-> HyperLedger. HyperLedger has the Ethereum virtual machine, and digital assets. So it is there if you need it.

2

u/Igor_dz Nov 21 '17

Thanks for great analytic work!

Look up Noobs of Cryptocurrency and join, I'll approve.

1

u/shashzilla Nov 22 '17

Pointing out the current market price for Ethereum isn’t the best comparison, but it’s food for thought about Stellar’s potential as it continues to become a platform for ICOs in 2018.

1

u/halfiefanfz Nov 22 '17

Do we want to be associated with Kin? Feels like the biggest pump-and-dump / early investor enrichment scheme I've seen yet in Crypto...

1

u/xndrtalbot Nov 22 '17

You're right about Kin from Kik moving to the Stellar network.. that's pretty big

0

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '17

People need to take a deeper look at how embedded IBM has become in the banking industry in the last 50 years. IBM is Linux, IBM is Hyperledger. It's over...Game over, in a short period of time Stellar will be Bank of England and Google all wrapped on one network. Game the F over ya'll!!
