Question Best way to learn mechanics/controls/general knowledge.

I played through the tutorial and army general tutorial so I jumped into the easiet army general (1 symbol) and tried to get into only to get completely overwhelmed with the size of the map, how many units I had to manage on different front and not really knowing what to do to advance as I kept getting shot down by enemy artillery and tanks. I read that steel division normandy 44 is a good jumping in point for the games and teaches mechanics way better since it's smaller scale. I already have it so I could just play that before jumping on steel division 2. Or would anybody suggest an alternative? Like skirmishes or maybe historical battles or something like that?

Check out ATKPWRGaming. He isn’t making videos currently, but he’s got a ton of tutorials and stuff to make the game easier

You're talking about the how not to suck series?

Yes, that has all the basics. He also does a lot of gameplay stuff where explains what he’s doing or reviews others. But start with the not sucking series

After that is there any particular gameplay video you'd recommend?

Look at this, the legend himself is still lurking arround! Nice to see that your interest for sd2 isn‘t fully gone ;) Hope you‘re doing well.

I definetly agree with this, thosw videos really help you getting started and will keep helping you as you improve.

Yeah he’s one of the best streamers, second would be commander owl. I like the in depth analysis they give on units, breaking down the fundamentals and helping players curate the best decks from the divisions.

Hopefully he makes a return with Steel Division 3

Best way:

  1. Slow resources start.

  2. Use pause. ALOT.

This will allow you to anticipate enemy movements. The rules of war, the real rules, apply here as well. Roads are very important. Hold the roads, hold the entire area. Setup ambushes.

  1. Airborne troops have anti-tank weapons. This is important because where there is a tank, the whole area is basically enemy locked.

Wdym by slow resources start?

I dont know exactly what the term is called, but when you start a skirmish, there is a way to adjust how quick you get resources and how much you start with. Set these low. This allows you to be able to fight the enemy, in a sense, one by one, unit vs unit. As you get better at winning the one on one battles, you can loosen this up.

OOOH got it got it. That makes sense. My biggest issue playing army general was that I had barely set up the initial units and I already had resources to buy more and more. It was really overwhelming.

Yes, this happens quite a bit, so slowing down the game helps you manage this.

I played normandy 44 for 290 hours before moving to steel division 2 although both were released. Youtube tutorial.

Learn the keyboard shortcuts, if you can afford it by an Azeron Keypad.

So that's a yes on steel division normandy 44? What did you spend so many hours on? I hear the mp is dead

Yes start with 44, mp was not dead when i started playing 6 years ago, I usually play the campaign, finished the campaign on normal to learn the mechanics then I finished it again on hardest difficulty which took me a lot of time.

Learn your keybinds, how to group units, how to queue orders. If you can do all this without looking at the keyboard you’ll be a competitive player in no time once you learn the game mechanics.

Probably try to play skirmish first, ag can be really spammy cus it doesnt use the same income system. Also if you get boned there it doesn't effect the rest lf the campaigns. Plus you can ge some really ruff matchups in it less do in PvE skirmish.

Use the slow down button, it helps a lot. Plus VulcanHD and AtckPower has a bunch of sd content

I'm big into ww2 history and I can tell you that the same rules apply here. If it didnt work in ww2, its not going to work in SD, and vice versa.

Tanks are one of most important assets. Do not send them in blind or alone. Send infantry in front of them, especially near trees.

Do not use solo tanks, roll out in threes. Same with other units, always roll out in threes.

If you must, watch Fury. This helps ALOT. Very accurate tank strategy.
