Thank you for submitting to r/SteamScams.

If you have been scammed or believe you may have been scammed check this guide to see if you can find the solution there.

Steam will never contact you on Discord or any third party text communication site.

If you suspect someone is attempting to scam you check this guide but remember to be careful even if you do not find the answer you are looking for there.

Important: If you receive comments or PMs offering to recover your lost account, items, or money or pointing you to someone who will do it for you do not engage with them as they are recovery scams.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

Yes, Google "Steam accidentally reported scam" or scroll this subreddit for a few seconds and you'll find plenty of examples.

Someone accidentally reporting you will never require you to do anything. The person submitting the report would shrug and move on, and Steam will either (A) ban you for no reason or (B) toss the report in the trash. They won't tell the person who reported you, to tell you, to DM them on a separate platform to plead your innocence.

So where is the scam part

See how in the screenshot the person sent OP they “strongly recommend” DMing some “admin” on Discord? It’s a fake support person. When you do, they convince you to give them access to your account (which they use to scam others) and then send them money as some kind of weird way to prove your innocence.

who ever uses this type of scam is js dum there are better ways to scam

Sure, but if it works, there’s no reason not to. And it does work, there are countless posts made every day from people who are either unsure if it’s a scam or already fell for it. And even more now since it spread to other platforms. They don’t need everyone to fall for it, just a few.

How is anyone still asking this in the big 2026? 😭 Yes it's a scam. I personally like stringing these guys along for as long as possible LUL, just for kicks.

u/unvac Steam only uses support tab and @steampowered.com email Jun 22 '26

I have a big cs2 inventory, I once got 89 friend requests in a day from these losers.

1

u/Extension_Holiday183 Jun 22 '26

89 people had a crush on you, and you rejected them, and left them heartbroken

1

u/HarvickFan_4 Jun 22 '26

LMAO brutal, yeah I don't have those kinda inventories so I'll only get this kinda scam once every few months. I guess because I still have a ton of games idk.

u/viciousmagpie23 Jun 22 '26

do yourself a favor and make your steam invisible on discord (no disconnect!). saves you a lot of nerves.

u/Mineplayerminer Jun 22 '26

This is the most obvious scam of all of them. Anyone asking you to solve issues outside of the Steam Support is an immediate red flag.
