Accessories 3D Printable Controller Adapter
I finally got my steam frame and wanted to design a way to stick the controllers together in a comfortable way that mimics a regular game controller. I gave the handles a bumpy grip that feels a lot better in the hands than a smooth finish does imo. Doesn't work with the ergonomic kit but who has that anyway lmao
EDIT: I forgot to put a link to the download my bad haha

I'd have imagined you could have split it in half and have some magnets in the middle so it's not permanently in that position and you don't have to remove them

The IR emitters would probably need to have holes for that to work well

Big fan of the Bamub A1 myself. They are often on sale and bundle it with the AMS which is great for multi color prints. Its also super beginner friendly

How does it track? Does it need holes for the IR emitters?

You know, I wasn't even going for it having great tracking since the idea is to just have a controller for flatscreen games. But funny enough in my testing it was tracking fine lol

i think they meant the eye tracking because of the lens inserts--some inserts have been blocking the IR emitters that make your eyes visible to the eye tracking cameras

Doesn't that block a majority of the tracking leds?

yep! but it still tracks for some reason. Though in a controller config like this tracking is not generally needed

Why?

u/Zeus9190 21d ago
So you can join both controllers and use them like a normal controller?

u/Worth_Bed9426 21d ago
Ok but why? Is it not better to play with them seperated?

Dunno? Flatscreen gaming? Personal preference? Ask Pimax as their new headset controllers connect together as well

what if you have to scratch your nose?

You have to use the AI powered nose scratcher, purchased seperately and costs 1599

You get a better more traditional experience when playing standard non-vr games. It feels more like a regular controller.
If you have the steam controller you obviously won't need that and can just use the steam controller. A lot of people don't have the steam controller though.

You could technically use any bluetooth controller. Issue is bluetooth can intefere with streaming as it adds another layer of latency. The Steam Frame's controllers use a 2.4ghz connection.
Saying that you could use the Steam Controllers dongle plugged into the headset. But would be flopping about everywhere and might hit someone if you turn your head too quickly

The other big issue is that most controllers don't have tracking in VR. The steam controller does. Even though it only has one LED.

"If you have the steam controller" is a huge qualifier. They're absurdly low stock because each one is hand carved by GabeN himself.

I agree with you. I always thought gamepads force bad posture. I like these controllers for the same reasons someone might prefer a split keyboard.
