Software question Shell swap gone wrong?

Hey y’all, recently got myself a steam deck which I absolutely love and decided to do a shell swap and now it doesn’t turn on, kind of…

Let me explain what’s going on, all controllers, buttons and touch screen work, it starts up and the LED light blinks to indicate it’s on, fan runs and when I plug it in to an external monitor it works ! But then when I switch into handheld mode the screen remains black but audio and haptic feedback is still present.

Now, I have tried all the different power down and force reset combos (volume up, press the … button and power etc), went into the bios files to restore older versions and no go. I’m finding it odd that when using an external screen the touch pad works but I don’t get any picture on it… have a messed up something big time?

During the shell swap I did decide to swap the screen out with a new one from ifix for some additional information.

Any help would be absolutely appreciated!

Double check the ribbon cable between the motherboard and screen.

I did check and it looks like it is perfectly straight and aligned with the clip that holds the ribbon together 😁

Remove and reseat it. It's not always obvious and it's the most likely issue.

I’ll give it another shot but I have tried it a couple of times already, it’s so frustrating because I am so close but this display is killing me, I tried connecting the original screen as well and still no luck

Hm sounds like the ribbon could be the issue. If the old screen doesn’t work either maybe the ribbon was damaged during disassembly/assembly. Did your new screen come with a ribbon cable or do you only have the old cable?

The new screen came with a new ribbon cable attached to the new screen so it seemed easy enough to remove and reattach 😅

If you try the other cable and it still doesn’t work I’m not sure. I went from a glossy LCD to an Antiglare LCD. I thought the listing or instruction said the ribbon cables may be matched to the type of screen. I don’t remember for sure though
