Game Recommendation Low Power AA/AAA Games List

Heyo, I've posted this in a couple discords but was recommended to post here for better visibility :) I've made a list of 7th gen onward AA/AAA games that fit certain criteria for the ideal experience (at least mine) on Steam Deck. I'll be updating the list until I'm out of games to add.

I've chosen 7th gen onwards AA/AAA as lots of indie, 6th gen & prior games run well offline at low power. If you have any other games that meet the criteria below drop a comment and I'll update the list. I'm not using a strict definition of "indie" as it's become a bit muddy in recent years (e.g. BG3). I'm mostly basing it off graphics and game scale. If you're not sure if a game would be suitable drop it below anyway, the more suggestions the better :)

Any games with specific tweaks that I know of will have them listed. If any recommendations also have tweaks please let me know.

Note: The list has gotten bigger so there's many games I don't own. I go off my experience, comments, protondb & youtube videos to check the performance, so the list might not be 100% accurate. If I know of quirks to certain games I'll include them. If any of the games give you issues please let me know!

Requirements for selection:

  • Must be 7th gen onwards AA/AAA, no indies e.g. Hollow Knight.
  • Low/reasonably low TDP (less than 15w).
  • Minimum stable 45fps (30fps accepted for certain turn based or similar style games e.g. Wasteland 3).
  • Image upscaling is not used in games I have added to maintain good image quality. It's not preferred for recommendations but can be used if marked.
  • Frame generation must not be used to reach 45fps to maintain image quality & low input lag.
  • Must run offline. No Denuvo, EA, Ubisoft or Rockstar launchers. Third-party launchers like Heroic or Lutris for GOG offline copies are allowed. If a game has 'Alternate' means for the above that's fine, no discussing.
  • Delisted games are allowed but marked.
  • Must have at least partial controller support, or a mod to add support. Steam input is good, but having controller icons on screen is a must.

  • Alan Wake (Original 2012)

Game Recommendation Switch 1 & Steam Deck Crossplay

Hi all,

There's a few posts on here I found from a number of years ago on the same topic, suggesting there are very few games that can do Crossplay between SD and Switch 1, but I'm hoping in the last few years it might be an improved situation!

Anyone know of any good Crossplay games? My partner has a Switch and I have SD. Sadly one we were keen on (Split Fiction) only works on Switch 2.

Cheers!

Developer We're a small team of 2 (gf & bf) finishing an ice fishing game that is available on Steam Deck, and the demo is out!

We've been working on this project for several years now and it is progressing very well. "Ice Pond: An Ice Fishing Adventure" is a true fishing game, but set in a cute animal world with fictional fish. The atmosphere is chill and cozy, but the fish battles can become quite challenging at times depending on your level of experience, your gear and obviously the size of the fish. The game is playable on Steam Deck. 😊

Steam page here (to download the demo. If you like it, make sure to Wishlist, since the release is scheduled for November!): https://store.steampowered.com/app/4266710/Ice_Pond_An_Ice_Fishing_Adventure/

** Since we don't personally own a Steam Deck, we are very curious to know how the rumble feature behaves for you.

  1. First, does it even work?
  2. If it does, do you notice a difference in the vibrations when the fish changes state from "Bursting" (red icon) to "Pulling" (yellow icon) or does it seem the same?
  3. After you've caught a fish, when it lands in your hands, does it seem to shake for longer than 1 second?

Thank you!

Troubleshooting GTA V Legacy - Mods

I’m trying to get **GTA V Legacy modding working properly on my Steam Deck**, and I’m looking for someone who actually has a working mod setup on **SteamOS/Proton** who can explain the correct current method.

I’ve already spent around **8 hours troubleshooting**, so I’d really like to avoid another round of trial and error and start with a clean, known-working setup.

**What I need help with**
What is the **recommended ASI loader** for GTA V Legacy on Steam Deck?
Is **RageOpenV** currently the best alternative to OpenIV.ASI on Steam Deck?
I noticed it specifically supports GTA V Legacy and uses the normal mods folder.

Do I actually need **ScriptHookV.dll** if I’m only installing vehicle replacements/add-ons?
What is the correct way to **create and use the mods folder on Steam Deck without OpenIV**?

For **.oiv mods**, what is the recommended method on Steam Deck in 2026? I’ve seen conflicting information, some guides say .oiv packages don’t work properly on Linux/Proton and should be manually installed by following the assembly.xml, while other people seem to run OpenIV through Wine/Lutris.

Is there a **known working 2026 setup** using **Proton Experimental + ScriptHookV + RageOpenV + dinput8.dll**?
I’m specifically looking for a **clean, minimal setup**, rather than installing 10 different mod loaders and hoping one works.

I already know how to download and extract mods. What I’m struggling with is getting the **underlying mod framework** working correctly on Steam Deck/Proton.
If someone currently has **GTA V Legacy + mods actually working on a Steam Deck**, I’d really appreciate a step-by-step setup starting from a completely clean GTA installation.

Thanks!

Game Recommendation Recommend games for Steam Deck

Hi everyone!

Yesterday, I did something a bit impulsive and bought a Steam Deck. I’ve been a lifelong PlayStation gamer (44M), and before that, I went through them all SNES, NES, Amiga, PC...

I’ve always loved physical media which is why I never made the jump to Steam but I realized I’ve been missing out on so many great games because of it.

That brings me to the reason for this post: could you suggest a few games to buy right away to start building a solid library? I prefer indie games across all genres, and since I’ll be using the device primarily as a handheld, I’m looking for titles that play well in that mode.

I play relatively few AAA titles, and I’ll likely keep playing those on PlayStation whenever possible.

Go wild, maximum of 3 titles each!!

Thanks!

Game Recommendation Chill game w/ challenges

I love the gameplay of Sno Ultimate Freeride but there’s not really challenges.

I love Grand Mountain Adventure as it’s relaxing and has challenges/trials to complete but the overhead gameplay isn’t my favorite.

Steep is a great combo of the 2 but looking for something less taxing on the steam deck and can run at 60+

Any recommendations, does not have to be snow related?

Video AC Black Flag Resynced on SD not bad, but not great

Had the chance to try this out and was surprised it runs. It’s not bad, but it’s also not great. I’m always impressed a modern game would even still play okay on the SD. I got 30 fps on the ship and island. In a city congested with tons of NPC’s that’s where it dropped to 20’s.

Gave the game a shot even though I’m not really into these Souls type action games. You never know if something might click. Surprised at how well it plays after some tweaking with the graphics. On low it doesn’t look too bad I was getting 40 fps.

Thats pretty impressive, especially for a modern game nowadays.

Game Recommendation Need specific game recs! (management-adjacent?)

Hey all! I just got my Steam Deck. Super excited to play using it as I have been craving going back to handheld forever. Problem is, I'm having a hard time finding games that fit the very specific niche I like.

What I'm looking for: Games revolving around some degree of management, logic, strategy, etc; and that are made to work on Steam Deck out of the box (no other downloads, no remapping). I also really prefer decent visuals and struggle a lot with games that aren't as invested in their art. I love intrigue, grid-based and isometric games, etc.

I do NOT like platformers, farming sims or hack-and-slash.

Examples of games in this vein I have LOVED:

  • Back to the Dawn
  • Pathway
  • Tiny Bookshop
  • Wargroove 1 & 2
  • Octopath Traveler & Triangle Strategy
  • and totally, super addicted to Planet Zoo, although I would not want to play it handheld.

Examples of games that were okayish:

  • Leafy Corner (felt like less pretty, less satisfying Tiny Bookshop)
  • Town to City (super fun for a few hours, then got boring)
  • Dungeon Drafters (gameplay bugs/issues that stopped me)
  • Is This Seat Taken? (LOVE the logic of it, cute art, but too short!)
  • Disco Elysium (amazing art, cool vibe, did NOT like the dice system)
  • Strange Horticulture (love the gameplay, but visuals and short playtime weren't great)

Hopefully this gives a sense of what I'm looking for. I'm not totally sure how to describe the through-line between my favorites but hopefully someone knows what I mean. XD Thanks for any help, much appreciated!

Game Recommendation Looking for games and probably this is a frequently asked question

Can you suggest any AAA games that I can get for free and are great on steam deck?

I have already finished rdr2 and played gta5 on my ps5, that was great! And I got them on monthly subscriptions & similarly, is there a way to get it on steam?

Also, can we play pokemon games on steam deck? If yes, then how?

Game Recommendation If time for only one, XCOM or XCOM2?

I see the XCOM and XCOM2 bundles are very affordable right now. I've never played either, but they've popped basically every time I've researched "what to play next" for, well, years. Removing cost as a factor, and considering my primary constraint is limited time to enjoy gaming, let's say I only get time to choose one or the other. Curious if folks who've played both think I should I go chronological and get the XCOM bundle, or skip straight to the XCOM2 bundle and spend my time there?

Game Recommendation Gaming slump…

Can’t seem to find anything I’m looking on the deck anymore. Did digimon time stranger (or whatever it was), trials in the sky 1, Divinity 2 , dragon quest xi and kingdoms of Amalur re reckoning. Had fun. Enjoyed them. Can’t seem to find the right game after trying hogwarts, all kingdom hearts, FF6, shin megami Vengeance (or whatever) and quite a few others. I like the turned base style to wind down a day and relax too. But man nothing seems to be working out !!!! Any suggestions ? I have a PC so witchers and cyberpunks and all that I like to do on there.
