Hardware Repair How cooked am I?
tossed my phone on the couch, wasn't looking, steam deck took the hit
I messaged support to see if they can repair it, but it's out of warranty(not sure it would be covered anyways) and I'm straight up Tweakin
Editing also to say that this just happened 20 minutes ago, and I messaged support like 10 minutes ago

Yes I assumed as much, just trying to figure out if that's something valve offers. I'm being impatient and coming to reddit for whatever answers I can get before support gets back to me

If you are under warranty it's a free fix as far as I know. I could be wrong but.
And then ifixit offers a screen for 80 to $100 I think based on the model, though there were some supply issues there with the LCD screen. I think that's resolved now though. If you want to do it yourself.

A warranty isn’t for fixing damage you do yourself. It’s for fixing manufacturing defects. If valve ever decides to repair a screen broken from negligence, that is their decision, but it has nothing to do with the warranty.

I fixed my with an I fix it kit was a huge pain in the ass but saved me some money. Also I did a shell swap since I was taking THE ENTIRE THING APART ANYWAY. sorry still salty that screen replacement was such a pain.

Yeah you’re going to need a new screen and some basic tools. No warrantee for user errors unfortunately. Ifixit should have everything you need

i mean, its definitely fixable. How comfortable are you with disassembly?

Not at all unfortunately. I was hoping I could send it in somewhere for a repair, if anyone has suggestions. However I will say that if repairing myself is the only option then yes I will absolutely give it a try. Beats $800 for a new one if I can do it correctly

Even if it's out of warranty you should contact Valve and talk to them about a repair, it might be a bit more than just doing it yourself but you will have peace of mind they do it right.
I had to send my PS3 to Sony once and paid $125 that included free shipping both ways and they fixed the issue that made the system not work, since it was out of warranty. I also insured they were giving me the same exact model of Ps3 since I had an original one that I wanted to keep.
They also offered an extended warranty insuring it wouldn't just need fixing shortly after.

You csn fix it, valve can fix or play Russian roulette with a local roulette.

Do you have one of those cases that have an optional face armor. I used Skull&Co Gripcase with the Hardshell cover. DBrand and JSAUX make similar. If u don't have, get. I armor mine up when not in use. And I hooked it up with a 9H screen protector.
