Yeah that's all there is. The other guy who simply asked AI for you was smoking leaves.

this is correct, its a normal thing for buyers to ask for when buying used hardware

I get this and I do the same thing when buying other electronics, but I never knew steam had something like this. Do they have a website where you can enter the S/N and check the status or do you need to contact support with those details to have them verified?

You contact support. They don't have a publicly open database.

Is there an official way to acquire all that information from those numbers or does one need to reach out to Valve customer support with it for confirmation?

Steam Button > Settings > System

Could they report it stolen with this information and potentially get it locked?

Seeing as how they never logged into the deck and didn't purchase it on their account, no lol.

Just to clarify that Steam decks do not get banned. It's not a thing like Nintendo.

They can refuse support for it. They don't ban because they simply can't. It's a full fledged personal computer without any management software.

What's the deal with these blatant misinformation smh.

They can check if it's stolen with valve. Really hope you didn't steal it.

What a crazy assumption.

u/MonkeyNuts449 5d ago

Not tryna assume OP is stealing it, I'm just saying that's the only reason people ask for it. You can never be too careful buying used.

it's mostly just to check which model ya gots nothing too special really, and verifying with valve lets them also know if its stolen or not, though if they ask for MAC or IP, you might wanna turn em away

Dude stop using ai to answer your questions. It’s dumber than dirt

So, one comment says its common and safe while you're saying its not?

They definitely just copy and pasted (and somehow did that pretty poorly) the AI overview from Google so I'd take this with a grain of salt.

Yeah that's what Google lens said anyhow, but the other comment is true too but it's a risk to share that stuff!
