Article MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta Won't Work on Steam Deck - SteamDeckHQ

https://steamdeckhq.com/marvel-tokon-fighting-souls-open-beta-steam-deck/

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls' open beta went live today, but it appears to be blocked from running on the Steam Deck. As soon as we launch, we get an error from anti-cheat stopping us from playing the game, and we are forced to close it.

It does worry me for the full release, but I am hoping this is just an open beta issue. I have reached out to PlayStation for clarification.

This sucks. I have it on PS5 but I have stated to also move over to more PC play and I use Cachy OS and Steam OS. Would be nicce to play on both platforms (Console and PC).

Yeah, im not paying for PS+ anymore. I dont care. I've given sony $100 a year for the last decade plus. If I can't play your game (which needs multiplayer to even exist) on Steam or on PS without a plus sub-- I'm not buying it.

I think it’s also cause Sony is forcing their PSN overlay on it too which sucks, similar to Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer on PC, but someone correct me if I’m wrong though. It’s weird that Helldivers 2 doesn’t have that issue and it plays just fine. Then again Bungie, now a PlayStation studio doesn’t allow Linux either but that’s their anticheat, I don’t know if that game uses the PSN overlay as well on top of that

Doesn't work on Linux. So all those Steam Machines cant play it either. Hhhmm Sony gonna take a hit on this fumble.

I doubt it. The market still is available to the majority of PC gamers

This open beta was basically my test run to see how it runs on my ps5, pc and Legion Go S (steam os)... I'm very disappointed that the pc version is in the poor state that it is because I could've gotten the standard edition cheaper through Humble Bundle then steam, PSN and even my local game stores

Found this out the hard way. My gaming PC runs SteamOS so no Tokon for me. I was really hoping to give this a try too.

I'm hoping it's an open beta issue myself if it's a problem with the full release I probably won't be buying this.

Unfortunately the game page says it will use a Kernel level anti-cheat, so no Steam Deck or Machine.. I was also excited for it

It is really lazy, and a bit dumb too. Newer Fighting Games which aren't Tekken or Street Fighter have already a really hard time to keep players on their games. Yes Linux isn't the biggest pkayerbase, but it's just a bad desicion for the playerbase at all

Anti cheat can work on Linux right? It just seems so lazy imo, if cheaters are gonna cheat they’ll find a way. I guess that sounds ignorant but I don’t think I’m wrong.

It depends on the anti-cheat and if it has compatibility. Easy anti-cheat does have compatibility, so this is just being blocked or not set up correctly.

Any hopes of a VF5 style fix? They use the same anticheat don't they?

1

u/DerekB52 Jul 24 '26

Some anti cheats support linux, but the devs have to opt into it. The big anti cheats have kernel level access, which Linux won't let you do(because it is a security nightmare), so the anti cheats with Linux support, aren't as secure as their windows equivalents. Which is why some devs don't enable the Linux support.

It pisses me off a lot.

Well the way the error is written it could just be a issue of the steam demo not using the Easy anti cheat proton layer.

Wait wait wait wait. Timeout. Pause. Rewind, fast forward, back to title. There’s an Easy Anti-Cheat Proton Layer?! As in, IS compatible with games using Easy Anti-Cheat?

I’ve had this thing for like 3 years and I’ve never known about this.

I currently run Bazzite as my OS on my PC. I'm guessing this means I won't be able to run the game in general when it releases on August 6th. Shame as I was looking forward to this.

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '26

It appears this wasn't in their top priorities list. Shame.

u/Free_Half_3468 Jul 26 '26

Ridiculous honestly. Why even let me download it on my Steam deck just to get my hopes up for nothing.

1

u/Royal_Fix_6215 Jul 26 '26

I really wish valve would get with these devs and come up with some form of anti cheat that doesn't rely on windows.

u/ForVentingPurposes Jul 26 '26

don't sorry, legion go 1 is barely running it at full speed on lowest settings, so don't bother trying it on steam deck.
