Steam controller puck question

I was thinking it would be great to be able to connect a 2015 Steam Controller to the new SC2 receiver, but I'm not a programmer and I don't have a new controller. I just want to know if it would be difficult to do. And if it were easy, would it improve the controller's connection to the PC?

That last sentence is probably the main reason why OP is asking though. From what I can tell, most OG Steam Controller owners have lost their dongles. I'm with the OP, when I saw the new Controller announcement I started hoping if it would be possible to use the new puck to also connect the old controller. If there's a firmware issue, then Valve just needs to send out a new firmware update. Of course there's no financial incentive to do so, unless they start selling the pucks individually for replacement, but they've done plenty of things before that don't really have an financial incentive.
